Yeah yeah people are dying but statistically most pain med patients stick to their medication as prescribed. Underprescribing these llfe saving medications is NOT the answer.

Now there is a Carfentanil a powerful derivative of fentanyl, a synthetic narcotic anagesic produced from morphine. While fentanyl is about 100 times more powerful than morphine. Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl, meaning it is 10,000 times more potent than morphine.

Medication assisted therapy is a perfectly reasonable way to stop but speak to your do tor about all the possibilities. Dependence is different then addiction and if in order to stay clean you'll need meds, i say do whatever it takes.. you'll most likely need some help in recovery for your thinking but Hopefully one day you'll be able to taper off medication and you'll no longer be physically dependent. Depending on the length and severity of the addiction the recovery process will be different

I have never understood this. I have, over the years, taken prescription opioids for various types of pain. Not once have I gotten any pleasure or high out of any of them, nor have I craved them or have been addicted to them. In fact, I never even finish taking the whole prescribed prescription.. could there be a genetically issue related to this problem?

@NOVA|PBS Thank you for this well balanced documentary about addiction and the neuroscience underpinning peoples suffering and making it more understandable for those of us who have these medications for serious illness who are fortunate indeed to not get genetically triggered into addiction/abuse of the drugs. Every life Is Worthy of helping them out of the horrible cycle of drug/alcohol/tobacco addiction... All of us so called 'normal' people would do better to understand it and we all need help - supports for the wider circle of people who suffer along with the addicted person/loved one, and there is nowhere (seemingly) tangible and consistently there for us all for support through the hell to recovery... Thanks again, could do with a further in-depth documentary on What To Do Now and Into The Future, with a positive Life to be actually have for All.

The WORST part of this video are the newborn babies addicted. How any woman can do that is so beyond my conception. Such ignorance and selfishness of them! They are DISGUSTING DISGRACEFUL and DESPICABLE..drug addicted or not! Those poor babies never asked to be born in such dire straights! Shameless women junkies!!! Bless the babies and kids who have to put up with sub humans as thier "parents'..it makes me literally ill...

The statistics say the doctors are delusional. They are the ones who are mentally ill thinking their treatments are working. This is an outrage. There are now over 100,000 Americans dying of drug addiction.
