I know that this video is a year old but the exploding bolts on the aft skirt of the SRB were 3" not 3 1/2 " how I know is I was a Machinist for McDonald Douglas and we made the aft skirt in Huntington Beach Ca, I even work on the last one they made a little.
The exploding bolts were made of Inconnel that Mat, can handle vary high heat. Each skirt has four on it and we were told that
the Space Shuttle made so must thrust that only one bolt has to work. See the Space Shuttle would pull the other ones out of the pad.

First rate rocket porn: lovely term for technical video!

The fact that they put so much effort into covering those thrusters before the launch tells me that NASA has definitely flown a few pigeons into low earth orbit.

The rocket propulsion system maybe real but the rest of the whole space travel is BS....The space shuttle is nothing more then a giant empty aluminium soda can that is shaped like a shuttle that is poorly attached to a giant helium filled blimp that is painted to look like a rusty external fuel tank that has two giant fireworks strapped too it......Rocket systems may be real but NASA/space travel is staged......DO NOT BE DECIEVED

Did anyone else see the bell nozzles flex as the engines reached full thrust?

Can you explain what the three white circles are that turn black at around 6.24? Later you put a red circle around them, but I didn't;t understand.

From the Titanic in 1912 to 1969 and going to the moon! Astor was looking at the moon on the Titanic smiling...I believe he said. "We will go to the moon soon enough"....and we did, we Americans from every race, creed, religion,....we did this!

But in the twang process, what is actually flexing? Something must be bending or flexing somewhere. Either the base of the SRB’s or the bolts holding them down. And either way seems a bit wild.

It's worth noting the F1 turbine exhaust wasn't just dumped overboard uselessly -- it was injected into the nozzle extension and formed a layer to insulate the metal from the heat of the main combustion (in hires video of the Saturn V launches, this cooler exhaust "sleeve" is the dark area right after the nozzle) and also added (per a video with Luke Talley) about 18K lbs of thrust, small but not wasted.

SME's react hydrogen and oxygen in a 2 to 1 ratio, so is their exhaust water vapour? Does this make them, technically, steam engines???😁

For initial lift off, couldn't be put any better way! Great Footage as well!! What about the SRB soot that is created? Even though it mostly happens at engine shut off, how is it refurbished with tones of it stuck on the rocket? Can SRB (being soiled model rocket propellant), be reused or do they have to be replaced due to it?
Can you do a episode on how the F9 gets its skinny ass off of the pad? Thanks again for everything you do!

I am commenting after the SLS launch and I was soo happy to see the similarities between the SLS and the space shuttle. I was never able to watch the space shuttle launch because I wasn't born then but i did a lot of research on it so I could compare it with the soon upcoming SLS launch and the RS-25 engines and the solid rocket boosters igniting made me smile.

Old video, but i have a question, that i don't know, if it has been answered.
Why are the SSME angled back away from the centerline, pushing the Shuttlle stack 'down' (relative to the orbiter) on a... don't know if it's the right term, non linier flight.
