I mean, Sakkari bashed her in Rome 6-2, 6-2 just a couple of weeks ago!!
Plus Gracheva has been in such poor form this year - really didn't see this coming but someone has already mentioned the fact Sakkari has lost 4 of her last five 1st round matches at the majors, which would explain why she looked so nervous when she walked out on court.
Never seen Gracheva without her cap/visor - really cute young lady and what a smile!
But a shocking result for Sakkari - clearly it's very difficult for her, psychologically, to do well at the majors.
Remember the shock defeat to Masarova at the US Open - she was in tears in the post-match presser.
Never underestimate the mental side of tennis - Sakkari clearly struggles with this.

Askari is always too intense and nervous in big matches.

I love it when Sakkari loses in the early rounds of a Grand Slam after performing very well in the WTA events she played. It just gives so much hope to tennis players and enthusiasts how this crazy game can be unpredictable. Haha.

I’m so sorry for Maria, she really has been playing well. The key is how she responds now because she still has the time and certainly the talent to turn it around and achieve something great. Remember how Stan became an animal in his late 20s when a lot of people thought his opportunity had come and gone.

think its the difference between seeing tennis as a job or a passion, you feel stressed to achieve goals, whereas when you enjoy the sport, its not about winning, its just about playing well
