Wonder how well Cosmic Scales with Resolution. Maybe it's a lot better then what we currently have. Cuz right now it does scale really Badly with 1440p hence why there is 1080p and 4k for their notebooks. Maybe it would be way better. Definitely gonna Try it when I get a Framework Laptop.

I prefer the current version (Pop-desktop) which is Gnome with a couple of extensions, because it means I can keep it how System76 designed it or I can rice it with Gnome extensions. I love Gnome extensions. They make it the most customizable desktop environment

In regards to Fedora (my daily driver OS on my Dell XPS 15) I prefer Terminal...sure Console might be new and shiny?...but I like "old and reliable"....as long as they continue to offer the option to CHOOSE then I'm good either way..

I think System76 was genius choosing to write the new DE in Rust. There are so many die-hards wanting to convert the world into their "MEMORY-SAFE!" utopia. The commits just roll in.

I hope they allow you to change where the application menu opens at. It currently opens in the middle of the screen which I find pretty annoying. I personally like the fullscreen dash with the transparency blur from the previous version of gnome but if they want to keep it as a window, atleast open it where the application button is pressed. That way I don't have to move the mouse back to the middle of the screen after pressing it.

Also, as a long time Pop user, the biggest benefit of this new cosmic desktop is having the custom applets that can actually be used with pop shell. Anyone who has ever tried to use gnome extensions inside of the current cosmic probably had to disable pop shell to get them to work properly which means you loose the window tiling. Some extensions work fine but many will completely break your user experience.

It's really impressive on how much they did in a short amount of time.

Seems like the name "console" is a mistake, because that's a separate concept from a terminal emulator. For example mac has both, with console only for monitoring logs and user-selected files (which gnome's "logs" incidentally doesn't offer). Why not just improve "terminal"?

Would we be able to use the old GNOME-based PopOS DE indefinitely? I don't want to switch to COSMIC any time soon, at least not in the next 2-3 years. Not because I don't like it, in fact, it's really good. But because I can't allow ANY workflow interruptions.

So, what problems of Gnome does it solve? I see, it also uses client-side decorations and panel+dock concept. But the panel is more powerful - the only advantage I've noticed. And of course, Rust is cool. I'll try it but I guess it will be crude for many years, and may repeat the fate of Pantheon

Konsole is GREAT-- Fedora and ubuntu are the trash end of the deal--- so it they DON"T Like it---that means it's GREAT.

Looks like STILL too much gnome for me. I've honestly TRIED to like gnome-- used it 4 times now for a long time each- and playing around and general use it's great- but when I get serious and start working- it gets in my way- and aggravtes me so that I can't work on it... NOT knocking it for others.. I just can't use it. I'll check this out though- because they DID say they would be moving away from gnome too..... so maybe it's had the parts I don't like removed.. :) THANKS.

I like using POP_OS I just wish they had a Plasma spin. I detest Gnome and have always installed KDE on top.

For people saying it is a gnome clone, yes it is but they did it to keep the old design so that users wouldn't need to adjust to a new ui.
