For those beginners who want to grow blueberries in buckets:

01. Bucket 55l (15 gallon)
02. Soil from a pine forest
03. Mix the soil with pine twigs and pine bark
04. Pine bark mulch

Purchased soil is dead soil. No doubt.
Purchased fertilizer is not as good as slowly decaying pine twigs with pine bark. They gradually give the blueberries nutrients. If you really want to take care of the blueberry, it is a good idea to let pieces of pine bark stand in water for several weeks. As soon as the water "rusts", it also has a low ph, then water them. If you have blueberries in black buckets, they will heat up a lot in the sun and the roots will suffer. Either use white buckets or simply paint the black ones white or wrap them in paper or aluminum foil. One last piece of advice: the more varieties of blueberries, the more fruit you will have.

Failure is not possible with this procedure

Do you only prune in the spring or should I do a fall prune on older bushes?

When you prune your blueberries, can you take those cuttings and root them?

After one of my birds got caught and died I stopped using net. It was too loose. If you stretch it tight with no folds it might be ok.

That was terrific. Going to try all his tips except one — I’ve found out that when you put very fine mesh over the plants, it also stops the pollinators. So I am going to try constructing solid wire cages over the blueberries. Like chicken -wire but one with one and 1/2 cm width holes in it: too small for birds to get in and big enough for bees.. and because its a hard non -bending structure, birds can even land on its top and sides, and it won’t bend or wrap around them. This is my plan. See how it goes. Thanks heaps for this

Blueberries turn red in the fall. Whole fields of them are red right now. From Muskegon south to South Haven, Niles area.

How do honey bees get through the tulle to pollinate the blueberries

Can't imagine why anyone would think someone their own level of experience would be JUST the person to ask about anything, unless you have tips and hints to share. Of course you'd go to someone with greater experience if real knowledge was what you are after. Age is irrelevant.

So I have a number of happy blueberries and its FALL. Most blueberries turn RED in the fall and the tree behind you is turning.

Yes, always check your pH. I prefer to use a slower release form of sulfur but when I see pH issues it is iron chlorosis (look it up) and that is because the plant cannot update the iron due to high pH.

I agree about the bird netting but tulle would be oppressive since we are harvesting daily - and my bushes are 6-7 feet tall (rabbiteyes) - If I had the room I would make it a walk in cage.
For me, we just harvest early in the morning to beat the birds, set up some yummy suet feeders away from the bushes as well as other feeders, and plant more blueberries.

Black snake caught in berry netting first time used it, took snake to local herpetarium for assistance, did get netting removed set snake lose in woods, never used netting again

Pine needles raise acidity. Grass clippingssoaked in water in the sun makes a natural nitrogen fertilizer.
