Spinrite is for when the heads of a hard disk drive gets misaligned with the tracks on the disks. Basically, the closest anyone, outside of a factory, will come to low-level formatting a HDD. Due to the advancements in the reliability of HDD's, I'm surprised Spinrite is still around!

There's too many tools on Medicat. First of all, you would have to be familiar with each one in order to know what it could do (and what it could not do). In my experience, it's better to have a few trusted tools, than a whole toolbox full of stuff you've never used before.

Oh, and by the way, MiniTool Partition Wizard is excellent. I use the free version, but I've been using version 11 (slightly older), as I think they may have added some restrictions in version 12. I use it all the time to copy people's Hard Drives to SSD when upgrading their drives. I use a two-drive caddy, so it's all done separate from the operating computer. There's a few limitations on the free version, but not that many. You can resize, move, create, delete partitions. You can run checkdisk on the partition, if it has problems. You can change MBR to GPT and vice-versa. You can't set the drive id for the recovery partition (in case that partition got changed). But there is a simple command in DiskPart to do that.

why is it, that when i downloaded MediCat via torrent, and try installing it on my flash drive, Window Defender found malware. should I ignore it? it's not false positive. it's a legit malware.

HOw often do you have to update all these utilities?

Anyone know if this set of utilities has anything to repair win 10 update failures? I have run all the usual cmd line fixes but nothing works. (Windows Update Troubleshooter, DSIM, sfc) I think the local image for repair is corrupted as DSIM and sfc both fail. win update error code: 0x800703f1. I am loathed to bite the bullet and perform a clean install.

The Medicat File is 21 GB??? How large is it when unzipped to a USB?

for that menu, you dont need to boot into the mini windows 10.... you could use that menu from the device OS itself

It is worth mentioning that with "live operating systems" such as the "Mini Windows 10" that certain applications installed within them perform their functions within those operating systems only and not the operating systems natively installed on the computer's default boot drive/partition/volume(s).

Their use only aids in resolving problems within the operating system they are running on and only contribute to identifying hardware component issues to the extent they rely on such components however other diagnostics utilities are much more effective and thereby relevant choices for those tasks.

They really should be categorized separately as "local operating system" utilities if you can't change their focus to another drive/partition/volume to work on.

It is also worth mentioning that some of the software (I assume on first glance) is either limited use or retired earlier versions (that may have been made public domain for posterity, perhaps?) as there are current commercial paid-for versions. An example is Gibson Research "Spinrite" (I recall going back to 1988 where the original version worked on MFM and RLL mechanical drives changing the interleave factor to increase performance and minimize mechanical wear & tear).

From a business perspective, the maker of (at least) the menu system is losing out on the opportunity to promote commercial versions for a commission that could fund further development of their software and work with the option of adding commercial software that can be licensed to the device using the USB VID, PID & encrypted license keys. This may give rise to the opportunity for customers to include software like the Eurosoft PC-Check hardware diagnostic software packages.

Where these all-in one bootable drive libraries need "user experience" improvement is they waste a lot of screen space in the menu screen that could be used for functionality. Examples:
(a) reduce the wasted space in the menu and place a documentation window to the right to display information about the current selection
(b) include a keyword search that could be used to quickly find what packages/apps contain a desired feature.
(c) mark certain options as "favorites".
(d) main library menu and a user-customizable menu
An overwhelming amount of software can be placed on larger usb storage medium that is likewise overwhelming to remember. As a techie with a very diverse workload there are tools I may go without the need to use for months, even years...

Im using ventoy. Having a problem. When i virtually mount win11 iso, modify some files , then recrete amodded win 11 iso. That iso doesnt boot in ventoy saying its unbootable iso. Any ideas?

Not a bad single USB stick. Now if someone could just figure out how to decrypt bitlocked drives. Ive had a number of clients come to me recently with locked drives when they did absolutely nothing to prompt it to lock. I know that windows 10 and 11 should NOT come with bitlocker already running but for some strange reason im seeing systems come in that are locked now.

I watched your video on making this tool and now am watching the description of what is has to offer and I find you very informative and not going so fast as some do easy to follow - well made video. Having said that there are a few software's that I have had trouble with in the past ie SuperAntiSpyware and McAfee products but I guess one just leaves those alone as there are other comparable software's eh? Personally I am interested in the recovery and scan tools.

Good vid I should mention that you don’t need to boot into mini win 10 to take advantage of the AV that’s installed. I had a pretty good time with a clients pc just plugged drive in started the application called “start” and was able to run super malware Hunter straight from their desktop
