I remember as a kid, this music with the Fantasia animation as being so scary I could hardly stand it. Kids have great imaginations, making this all the more terrifying. 😬

I first heard (&saw) this at age 5 when Disney's movie Fantasia came out. Wow! Have loved the music from that picture ever since.

The last 40 seconds are so beautiful. It kind of makes me think of the final scene in Steven Spielberg's Duel, where the guy is sitting on the cliffside quietly after surviving his ordeal in the desert.

I can't but be reminded of Disney's Fantasia and the visually stunning interpretation. Fun facts, the mountain turning into a demon was influenced by the German expressionist movie Faust. Beli Lugosi was the model for the demon's face.

It would be awesome if Disney made a live action adaptation of their Night on Bald Mountain sequence. The difference would be that what we saw before... would just be the beginning. Chernabog attempted to take over the little town, but the blessed morning church bells warded him off. 100 years later, the town has thrived, but only for the worse, for Chernabog would triumphantly return to make sure that this time: HE WINS!

The title of the film would ultimately be "Chernabog: The Night on Bald Mountain". And Andy Serkis would definitely mocap the title demon's movements like Bela Lugosi did in the original Fantasia segment. Keeps the production in spirit that way. You know?

I took Russian Studies in Highschool and the teacher brought in some albums to play of Russian Classical music. She said that she would give the person who could identify the piece of music a 100 on a test score. When she placed the needle on the vinyl album I shouted out in three seconds, "Night On Bald Mountain, by Mussorgsky!"
She thought I had somehow cheated, but I listened to this music every night while reading Sherlock Holmes. I would put it on repeat and listen to this a Debussy on an album by Isao Tomita.

I first heard this music in a horror or Halloween-themed game on my Commodore 64.

Anyone in UK remember in the early 2000s that comedic show where they did a challenge one time where they were building a tent each and they had this song accompanying it, even had a Mr Blobby cameo and huge gusts of wind for comedic effect. I'm not sure what it was, but I do remember hearing the tune there as they were trying to do this tent challenge.

Other than that, still a beautiful piece of music, powerful, strong, frightening and menacing, yet full of emotion and terror, also when it all calms down and the music is all calm and the notes are more mellow, it's just gorgeous, it's like all the fears have suddenly gone away.
