Your dreaming about it taking 20 minutes to break into your safe. Any safe with a push button key pad can be opened by anyone that has ever worked on garage doors or for a locksmith in just seconds .

There are a few master codes that will work with any electronic key pads and can be opened by anyone with that knowledge as fast as you can. Plus with Liberty I believe it was? Recently giving up that code to the ,,either the FBI or ATF ( don't remember just which one ) so your security is obviously still limited. Especially if the manufactures are willing to release that information to a gov agency, which they recently did.

A friend of mine that installs garage doors and I went to pick out a safe for myself 4-5 years ago and when we were looking around in several different stores and at a gun show he was able to unlock every single safe with that electronic key pad. A couple guys at the gun show and at Dicks both said it wasn't possible , so my friend went right down the entire row and literally opened the 10 different safes at Dicks, the 5-6 at the gun show , gun shop and all the ones at tractor supply as quickly as if he'd know the combinations .

Mine is a old school combo dial lock which is inside a shipping container that doubles as my reloading room and it's welded to the back corner and is framed in by a 1/4 " steel plate and angle iron framed wall and steel reloading bench that would have to all be torn down before you could even get to the sides or top of the safe, not even counting getting past the 3 locks securing the storage container doors to start with . That one I feel relatively confident in even though it only has 10 ga thick walls.

Better yet , if you can find one , get a bank safe from a branch that has moved or closed, they're hard to find , ya, but there out there and can be had for pennies on the dollar if you do. Even if you can only get the door section where you'd have to pour a cement box to install it into you'd have way more security.

I have a huge bank safe from the 20's that weighs 2+ tons empty and is really nice to look at besides with all the gold leafing and the design on the front. That one I paid 500 for , but it took almost a full day to demolish the walls to get it out and required a tow truck to lift and haul to my house where it took an excavator to set in place in my garage on the cement pad . That one is welded to the steel frame of the building too so neither will go anyplace soon.

Don't trust electronic locks or Chinese safes , there not as secure or defiantly not as fireproof as you may think. Take that from a Firefighter with 37+ years experience.

If you want better fire protection from one of those cheapo safes defiantly frame up a steel stud wall with a few layers of sheet rock surrounding it on all sides and you'll at least save your paperwork , cash, or important documents that way otherwise they won't likely survive well and any firearms can be rust damaged as well if not removed and taken care of quickly. The sheet rock fire insulation in those safes out gasses H2O when heated to high temps plus the safe walls warping during a fire , can, let in any water used to douse a fire.

Those are a few other "nasty secrets " they don't tell you.

I noticed that your property that you intend to keep safe is actually a high interest target for theft. I found it to be humorous when I was subject to a safe being stolen from my house. Almost everything including the safe itself was actually recovered later, the safe unfortunately had to be replaced due to it being cut in half. The thieves that took the time and energy to get my safe out of my house, transported it across town to break in to the safe abandoned the contents of my safe because they had no clue that the contents I chose to store inside my safe were things I couldn't replace in the event of a disaster. The dollar value I had never considered as most of the contents were; family photo prints, film negatives, archival backups of scanned family photos in two different media formats in case one might be ruined due to (usually the heat of a house fire or the water used to extinguish).
I wanted to say that I agreed 100% with two very huge points. First, there is a reason that banks exist. Second that it seems to be an advantage to have multiple small safes or locking cabinets. Which I don't know if anyone has ever had the problem of when going to court in certain states an "Electronic Combination" is not a lock by definition and if there is not a backup key to bypass that electronic code access, technically there is no lock at all.

If you have the time, you can build layers of a room safe ,hardened core, and layers from inside to out. Thieves are usually desperate and dumb-but meth brain will spend waaaay more time on defeating your efforts because he is focused on the most important thing, and that is getting high-and that means getting to your stuff to sell. Just my two cents. Great video

Security is always a time / risk tradeoff. With enough time all security will be defeated. Your safe needs to be resistant enough for police to respond before they get into it. That means also having a security system that can notify you and/or police when someone breaks in.

I do security consulting for a living and 15+ years law enforcement. You've made a lot of good points, but I will add a few.
- Although that says "safe" in the name, that's not a real safe. It's really a Residential Security Container, or RSC. A real safe is TL-15 or more rated. You could buy really cheap used TL-15 safes for the price of these "safes"

- Weakest point of a safe are the sides, back, bottom, and top. So make sure to bolt them down and put as many obstacles on the way as possible in the top, sides, and rear.

- Security comes in layers. Don't rely on a safe alone. Starts on the outside, cameras, motion lights, signage, security screen/films, fencing. Inside timed lights, alarm system, cameras.

- Lastly, DON'T cheap out on a safe. I know so many people that have thousands of dollars worth of guns, and other things inside their safe and have it inside a $500 Home Depot safe. Fort Knox are pretty good, so are Sturdy Safes and won't break the safe. AGAIN, BOLT DOWN YOUR SAFES. I have seen many cases of thieves taking 1,000 pounds safes.

With a REAL safe you are buying a long time against an amateur with a hammer. Problem is almost no gun safes are real safes. Minimum TL-15 rating or its junk.

Never buy a safe with the hinges on the outside of the door. Always bolt them down. Load all your ammunition reserves, this will increase the weight dramatically. Remove the keypad just like for a battery change and hide it.

Do you really want a Liberty Safe? They hand over its customer’s access codes to the FBI. That's not safe.

"Liberty Safe, a popular gun safe maker, gave one of its customer’s access codes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) last week, the company revealed. The FBI requested the code in connection with a raid on the customer’s home over his alleged participation in the Jan. 6 Capitol fiasco. "

Customers now say they are planning to sell or return their Liberty Safes amid ongoing outrage after the gun safe manufacturer provided customer information to the FBI.

Liberty Safe has faced a flood of backlash this week after revealing the company provided an access code to the FBI for "the safe of an individual for who they had a warrant to search their property." The safe belonged to Nathan Hughes, 34, who was wanted by the FBI for alleged crimes related to the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, like accepting the invitation by the police to walk through an open door at the capitol.
