This is actually horrifying, because Vought's control mechanism just failed.
They tried to contain him by getting him to need love and approval, but now that he needs it from just his son, if his son is corrupt, then they're right back to square one with him lasering his way out of the womb.
Homelander didn't change or overcome his nature. He just transferred the peer group he wants approval from.

Homelander saying, "I don't want to manipulate you" is truly diabolical as he is actually manipulating Ryan into trusting him. Brilliant antagonist.

I don't think Homelander will ever be redeemed but he'll probably have more conflicts about forcing his idealized vision onto Ryan. Ryan will be better than both Homelander and Billy Butcher, being a proper hero.

Don't be fooled. Once Homelander realizes Ryan will inevitably replace him, he will resent his own son through an atomic midlife crisis. Homelander says he wants a legacy, but it's only if Ryan essentially becomes him. Once the thought of stepping down hits John, he'll turn on Ryan.

It's messed up cause this asshole deserved it and Ryan did good in this episode BUT we all know that he's definitely gonna go on a power trip and eventually hurt someone who didn't deserve it. Also I'm pretty sure the way Homelander and Ryan's relationship will come to end will be when Butcher inevitably reveals what Homelander did to Becca

The more homelander gets thrugh his son the scarier the future is for this universe. Ryans up bring determines if this world gets burned down or has a true hero

This gave me gotham vibes. Seeing young Bruce Wayne grow into who he would become. Seeing him throw his first punch, learn how to fight, etc. Bruce had Alfred. Ryan has Superman. Really...broken...Superman.

Alfred: Why do we fall, sir? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.

Homelander: Why do we fall, son? So next time we can fly and take out a Vought airliner full of people who pushed us down and laughed at us.

You know is even worst because Ryan (and honestly everyone who didn´t came for the money) would be pretty anoyed by the whole marketing and movie star bullshit of Vough, so by having Ryan not doing this or that, HL is actually turning him more to his side. Hell, here we even see that Homelander has actually improved his manipulation skills, or maybe he just opened up to actually listen to his son, because he did horribly wrong the time he tried to convince his son that killing Koy by accident was okay, but now the made him enjoy seeing an asswhole creep being slapped. So yeah, this guy desrved it, but, we can only fear how far that can go....

This is what leads the media to Homelander using his destructive intelligence manipulation against his own son. Unfortunately, that will play out...if Ryan doesn't get a grip. And I guess in season 5, at the end, Ryan will realize Homelander.

It's so weird because in the midst of all the bad lessons that Homelander tries to teach....there's a sliver of good parenting. In this case, it's being able to speak your mind.

Im calling it. Either Ryan is going to kill Homelander, or Homelander will kill himself after Ryan dies. Sometimes the way the framing is set up with the 2 of them makes me believe Ryan is going to kill his dad and be a true hero, or Homelander will lose his son and end his miserable life.

It won't happen but it would definitely be a subversion of where we think the story is going
