Unfortunately you don't even need to be digging in cemetaries or even aid stations to come across bodies like this. They are scattered all over the Eastern Front like this. Metal detectorists find them all the time, however these men are doing the right thing by properly burying them. Sadly the graves commission from Germany wont bring back their dead unless they are definitively ID'ed by name as far as I know.

Very sobering video. Is it known if the dead were Russian or German? The helmet recovered appears to be Red Army issue so perhaps it is a Russian grave. Either way, I hope they get reburied with the honours due to fallen combatants.

But their skulls are lined up, separated from the skeletal bodies.. There is no way to document who they were unless some paper work was given, and even then it would be a guessing game who was who. I would say, leave them be. However, more than likely there would be some idiot just digging the remains up and looting the site. A lose/lose situation.

You should read more than one book. Try "Die Stalingrad Protokolle". Written by a German historian. It gives a whole new perspective on the Red Army and rather convincingly debunks many claims in Anthony Beavor's books. I read them both and I am unbiased since I am only interested in history. Anthony Beavor is a great writer but since his books were published new information has surfaced. Do not forget that after WWII ended we in the west were fed with propaganda as well.

Remember that the Russian and German wonan had very little control over the cause of the war. They were both cogs and victims of it. May God rest all their souls
