Very great video
ОтветитьThis is a very good instructional video .
ОтветитьGREAT TEACHING VIDEO. KUDOS. 1 A Auto makes some of the best videos online. Thank You - John 3:16
Ответитьcan you do a video about brake pads slipping down and grinding on the center of the rotor and what can cause that?
Ответитьi am just going to say, if you dont know what surface goes against the rotor or you dont know how to fit the pads on the bracket, you should not be doing brakes, no matter how many videos you watch or where you buy your pads, you are going to end up killing yourself and maybe someone else.
ОтветитьCan I just open the brake fluid reservoir when compressing piston?
ОтветитьIf you come even close to putting brake pads on backwards, if you have to think about which way they go on for more than a millisecond, you should not be servicing your own brakes.
ОтветитьBest video
ОтветитьHow about those damn Phillip head screws that holds the rotor on. I just had to drill one out 😢.
ОтветитьFor blossoming mechanics folks that have never turned the wrench before an oil change is a skill typically encountered early in this endeavor. After oil changes brakes are next hurdle. I might want to put car stereo before oil change because some people just don’t change their oil
ОтветитьKeep an eye out on your parking brake drum diameter.
ОтветитьI had new discs, pads, and callipers fitted by a mechanic, and despite him bleeding the brakes twice, they still feel spongy, less responsive, and peddle needs pressing deeper. Why is this??
ОтветитьYou have to be real stupid to mess this one up 😂
ОтветитьWhere do I put brake fluid
ОтветитьI watch this video and think, "wow people e do that?!". But when you've had a long day trying to repair your car and life is getting in the way too any mistake is possible.
ОтветитьGood tips and info.
ОтветитьDon't cross the road in front of a vehicle you will get run over, best thing to do is wait until the road is clear that way you won't get run over.
ОтветитьBackwards??? Good Lord!!!
ОтветитьIf you open the bleeder when compressing the caliper, do you need to bleed the brakes to get any air out?
ОтветитьWhat about a greasse put on the piston (Just a tiny layer) but just on the part that extends outside the caliper ?
Sorry for my bad english and thanks for the video.
The vid is ok but for first time diy by diy
ОтветитьI grew up in a home where my friends and those of my brothers came to fix their cars….after three decades of working on cars, feeling rushed and tired what do I do? Bleed the brakes and forget that the passenger side (front and back) were not reassembled!!! Both pistons shot out!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьWhat’s the harm of letting the fluid return into the reservoir? I’ve seen it done like that and the brakes do fine .
ОтветитьBiggest common mistake made in this video, drilled rotors are a downgrade.
People will cry and argue about it all day long. Yes, they will be fine in your street car and your truck you threw a power stop brake kit on. But it is still a downgrade. There are no benifits with modern pads that slotting doesn't provide and they make the rotors prone to cracking. Actual race cars with cast rotors don't use drilled rotors anymore for exactly that reason. It's a fad these days and it should really go away.
There are exceptions, carbon ceramics seem to be fine stored and there are some non vented lightweight drag brakes with larger holes like TBM that go through crazy heat cycles without cracking, their drilled wildwood counterparts have much smaller drilled holes and do crack
Great Job!
ОтветитьI’d like to see a controlled experiment, other mechanics have said that brake fluid alone is corrosive to rubber so I’d like to see how an o ring would fare in brake fluid with no oil in it
ОтветитьI have a 2005 Tahoe. The previous owner had the brakes done. After a few years, the inside of three rotors were destroyed while the outside looked new. One brake rotor and pads looked new. The brakes showed no sign of any grease on the pad clip or the caliper bolts to the caliper was probably not sliding over to engage the outside pad. The new looking one had stuck pistons. As I put it back together with the original rotor and pads, I compressed the pistons after spraying them with Blaster and they worked fine. If you don't do the job right, it won't work right. P.S. The caliper bracket bolts were very hard to get out because they used Loctite.
ОтветитьPutting the brake pads on backwards lmfao
ОтветитьI couldnt imagine installing pads backwards would be one of the most common mistakes lol. It takes a special kind of tool for that one geez!
ОтветитьI forgot to grease my caliper pins last time I did replace my pads in my 2012 vw Jetta. Over time it started to sound like an old pirate ship creaking and grinding type of noise. Took it apart and was surprisingly still intact. I Re greased them and the next day after a little driving I didn’t have any issues. I also forgot to clean up the space by the rotors cleaned that up as well. All good too go.
ОтветитьPush the piston back slowly with a g clamp or it may turn the seal in the master cylinder do not open bleed screw only take off brake fluid resevior cap
ОтветитьI put in new brake pads in but it’s still making a squeaking noise. The noise happens when I slow down and when I reverse
ОтветитьYou are so thourough. I love watching your videos. Thank you!!
ОтветитьLol okay nobpdy who has ever gotten far enough to replace brake pads has ever put pads on backwards.
Also those pads would be just fine. The outside of the pad doesnt matter, its just the side sitting against the drum. The rotor is fine as well. Itll smooth down over time. Its whay theyre made for.
So I installed new rotors, calipers, and pads.. I ended up putting the pads on the opposite wheels (pads facing rotors, but upside-down).. The squealers were facing down.. Started getting a horrible noise, looked at everything.. found a groove on the inside of my rotor.. talked to somebody about it, and he thought the squealers were always supposed to be facing up, so I switched the pads around, and now the sound is gone. Still though, big ol' groove in the back of my brand new rotors... lol, now I know.
ОтветитьI replaced my front brakes and in dismounting and re-mounting the caliper, I twisted the caliper some, nothing egregious, but enough to loosen the bolt that connects the steel hose to the caliper, allowing brake fluid to leak out, definitely want to make sure that’s still tight after mounting, or better yet make sure you don’t twist the caliper.
ОтветитьOil in the master cylinder can swell the piston seals, blocking the compensating ports and cause the brakes to stay applied and drag. Ask me how I know.
ОтветитьWhen I'm wailing on the brake rotor it is helpful to install the lugnuts on each stud two or three turns to protect the threads and keep the rotor from possibly falling off unexpectedly.
ОтветитьYou can always remove a roater. It's just a matter of enough rust penetrant and hammering, took me 1 hr one time.
ОтветитьI think it’s dangerous having a video explaining things this clearly. Cause his target audience is clearly someone who doesn’t have common sense…..
Ответитьthat first case you'd have to be an absolute imbecile so you shouldn't be touching your brakes..
ОтветитьI had a 2008 civic si I did the front brakes on and it was impossible to get the rotor off. I tried a torch, and sledge hammer I let it sit with deruster for days. I ended up having to buy a hydraulic claw that you could grab the rotor and push on the hub to yank it off, unfortunately it messed up the threads on the bolts so I had to redo the wheel bearing and buy a knew hub with the wheel bolts too, but that was insane.
Ответить100% never any grease pads EVER! Anti-seize behind the brake pad slides is fine. They dont come like that from factory! Grease collects brake dust and road grime causing brake pad to lock in place and cause premature failure. ( Bad advice telling to add grease ). Second disagreement you never open the bleeder when compressing the caliper the reason why is you can introduce air into the system. ( The only time the bleeder should be opened is for brake system bleeding or diagnosing a stuck caliper checking to see if the caliper is faulty or the rubber line is faulty )
ОтветитьHelp please. I just replaced the rear brake pads and rotors on my 14’ G37s coupe 3.7l rwd. First time doing so and the rotors won’t spin and my brake fluid reservoir is full from compressing the caliper pistons. The parking brake is off and I haven’t pressed the brake pedal due to not knowing how to proceed with the proper course of action. What would you recommend I do from here?
ОтветитьIf you install your pads on backwards, you should not try to fix your car anymore. It's obvious you don't have the mental capacity to do more difficult repairs than brake pads.
ОтветитьI think I would fire an employee of mine for putting the pads on backwards. If he done that who knows what else he would get backwards😅
ОтветитьSuperb, very indepth.
THANKS!!!!!
