Stages of Pencil Grasp Development (Informational video)

4 year old here! Has no interest in writing but in UK we have homework with letter writing. They want him to hold tri pod but he gets frustrated and if he tries to write it’s a very faint line (not enough strength or coordination). Do you recommend certain types of utensils or supporters? I know they sell pencil grippies or triangle pencils and crayons. If he’s just not ready to hold it is it better not to force?

Here in india at age 3- 3.5 yrs age they are expected to have a tripod.grasp for basic writing standing lines. Sleeping lines. Slanting lines curvy c u and inverted c and u individually and in chains. We are working with the pincer grip and flip method however we r not able to get any real hold.
I do see the 4 finger grasp option. Can I know more about how I can help my child achieve a grip using that method.

Thank you so much for making these videos about pencil grasp. My 3.4 refuses to hold the pencil other way than Fisted grasp or sometimes he would hold it from the top part. 😮‍💨 I’ve tried to show him using the crab method but he is not interested. He also does not like to color and when he does, he gets easily tired and prefers to scribbled on the whole page. I use the chubby crayons and markers. Should I change to the thinner crayons, colors and markers? I hope you can see my comment. 😊

Hi! Is it possible for an 18 month old to have the four finger grip or the dynamic quadrupop one? My husband and I were comparing to our child and she seems to have one of those. We are a Montessori family so I know her fine motor skills tend to be really awesome, but we’re curious because I don’t even know which one exactly it is! i had a stroke and trying to get handwriting back. my shoulder is still a bit weak left handed. do you have any suggestions on how to hold pen should i use marker or crayon? hold pencil like 1 yr old?

Thank u for this concise info. There is a product called crayon rocks. They are fantastic for developing a good grip. I'm also an OT.
