Its interesting to contemplate ancient civilisations and their thinking but it seems to me that we need to deal with the facts as we now know them. Modern science gives us lots of clues as to what its all about.

The sperm enters the egg, bang, a connection is made to the consciousness field. The rest is life, at the end, the energy drops and at death, the candle is extinguished and the soul returns to from where it came. Pretty much like taking a light from a fire, using it and then extinguishing it. What happens to the fire when you blow it out?

Great soliloquy, my friend, and thanks for the shout-out! I feel you. I wrestle with these things, too. Deep down, the honest truth is that I don't know. As an idealist, I can only say that I find idealism more compelling than physicalism as regarding consciousness as primary seems to solve a lot of problems.

We can only observe reality, take empirical evidence seriously, and take into account reports of mystical experiences like psychedelic trips, meditative states and even NDEs—and try to connect the dots (as I try to do on my channel) to form some kind of metaphysical model or even a theory of reality—but to be fair I still can be sure of anything. Like you said, I am only 100% sure of that 'I am' and everything else is regarded only with degrees of confidences, like guesses that never reside in absolute certainty.

So, according to my research and regarding NDE studies which take many reports seriously, I am more confident (now more than ever) that nature allows for an afterlife as opposed to total oblivion upon physical death. A lot of my observations ostensibly favour metaphysical idealism over materialism which makes me think that perhaps the former should become the default mode instead of the latter (but never in a dogmatic way, always subject to change).

Thanks for this video, Matt, and all your attempts to keep us all grounded are very much appreciated. 🙏🏻❤️
