Hello Z, DId not find your email, so I would like to ask you a question. With your recommendation I have purchased Fostex TR-X00 Ebony, very happy with them for the past year. But decided to try something better and bought Stax L700mk2 +D10 2 Dac. Very dissaponted with the upgrade as the music I listen mostly Rock (Dead can dance, Cure, Alternative, etc), and the Stax sounds just like plastic. Would you please recommend me a decent upgrade from my Fostex? Basically great HI-end Rock headphones. 2-3K range. BY the way Fostex I am using with Macbook no Amp/dac - amazing sound. Thank you for your advise.

I have some relatively new inexpensive Panasonic headphones, that I noticed are vented around the edges of the backs, and while they are OK, there is no doubt that there is room for improvement. After seeing this video, I bought some blue tak (Amazon), that just arrived at my front door. Just before posting this I used some of it to cover the vents on one ear piece of the headphone, and immediately could hear the difference, which was an improvement. Thanks. The sound seems richer, less tinny. If I had to guess, I would say that this might be a combination of closing the back and a significant increase in damping of the shell, and perhaps lowering its resonant frequency a bit.

The black holes are on Amazon in the US for $50 with a half off coupon. For a non-audiophile, how much better would you say these are to skullcandy crushers or any other consumer grade headphones. Surely there’s more clarity and quality of sound over the crap they sell at electronic stores, right? Maybe?
