Is there a formula or a chart for a relation between tork it deliveres and the rev the disk is spinning?

I learnt a lot about clutches a few years ago. I drove a 1983 daihatsu charade and could not get a daihatsu clutch set for love of money so had to contend with a LUK clutch. Within a year the clutch collapsed catastrophically. After replacing the clutch 3 times in 3 years i found a daihatsu clutch. It turned out that the LUK thrust bearing was not the right size and caused too much pressure on the plate and it would cause the diaphragm to collapse. The daihatsu clutch lasted 10 years!!!!! Thank you for the reminder of how they work.

Very informative for a DIY mechanic like me. With my 1973 lotus Europa special I am having a bit of trouble in getting out of 1st gear, more trouble getting into second and unless Im very slow it occasionally grinds into 2nd. It has a relined disc which worked without these issues for 600 miles until I put the linkage system back to factory settings. The "air gap" is about 60 thou and I can clearly see the disc spin via the bell housing whilst in gear and rocking the car back and forth, but my symptoms seem like a dragging disc. I am confident Ive set everything up perfect yet it is still not working well.

I have an issue with my car having rattles when I apply clutch control. This is after the gearbox was replaced. I needed to understand what the possible causes were, bewore I take it back to the workshop and allege that the gearbox is faulty. This video was so helpful and easy to understand. I have almost now mechanical understanding, yet I found this video very informative!!

Why are there friction plates on both sides of the clutch disc? If they're used on both sides, what is it that contacts them on the opposite side of the freewheel?

? Does the input shaft ALWAYS move when the flywheel is moving? I am trying to grasp and get educated on what all goes on ... my 27 year-old truck just had its first new clutch job at 341k miles

First of all, thank you for sharing.
I want to ask, what is the problem
1) When the engine is running and the gear cannot be put in. Press the clutch pedal and when entering the gear it seems to be stuck?
2) When the engine is turned off, go into gear and then start the engine while pressing the clutch will the car jump (keep moving)?

how to overcome?

so how is the pressure to the pedal reduced? is it simply that the pedal is a lever so you are applying a lighter force over a longer distance to engage and disengage the clutch? how would you make it so you have a shorter clutch pedal travel but is not really harder to press? great vid btw

Good lesson. I just replaced the disc in my 70s VW Bug with a non-coil spring disc and the grab point is quick and harsh, as now there appears to be near zero dampening. Nowhere near as smooth release as before. Will this sudden, quick grab soften when broken in or is that it? Which type discs are preferred, with springs or without? I guess what I'm asking is, do racers prefer the non-coil spring disc?

Dear sir:
1) I'm a woman and absolute, hopeless and helpless newbie when it comes to cars and car mechanics
2) I'm from Eastern Europe and English is my third foreign language.
That being said: I understood your video perfectly and now I am a little bit better driver who FINALLY understands how the darn thing works :) THANK YOU! Who knows how many lives you saved by this video! Shout out from Eastern Europe and keep up the good work! <3

Hi, I have a quick question. I'm trying to restore a 1972 VW Beetle. I just put in a new pedal assembly and connected the clutch cable to the transmission. The engine and clutch are not installed yet. I THINK I connected the pedal and cable right, but I'm not quite sure if the release bearing is moving enough for the clutch to work right. Typically, does the arm and the release bearing have to move a lot for the pressure plate to work and disengage the clutch? About how much should it move? I'm sorry, I know this is a specific question and I hope it makes sense. I'm new to this.

nice video. I have my clutch that stays in the floor and I have to pull it back up with the back of my foot while shifting gear. the strange thing is, that it is intermittent. it happens once and it stays good for a week or more and then it happens again and then it stays good for a good 2 weeks or more. I changed the slave cylinder to no avail. could there be a problem with pressure plate or the fork or should I go ahead and replace the master cylinder. there is no leak in the clutch hydraulic system and the level of clutch fluid is good. there is no leaking in the master cylinder either.
