Would love to see how to use ascii art with zsh
ОтветитьI'm OK with Bash - and not going to lie, I'm boringly old-fashioned. Zsh always looks pretty hipster and soydev for me, but nevertheless I have some curiosity about other Unix shells (Ksh and Csh, to name a few).
ОтветитьBackspacing to delete your line isn't actually necessary. CTRL-A CTRL-K will do.
ОтветитьGood walk through, though I think the concern on memory usage is way over done. I work in the embedded world every day, writing firmware for microcontrollers with 2k ram, and linux systems with 500 MB of ram, never once have I worried about how much memory the shell used, and yet we are here quibbling over 1-2 megs on a user system with 5 GB of memory? Maybe you forgot its not 1993 any more...
Ответитьif you are not using vi mode, you are basically using gnu readline and it has all kinds of shorcuts like vi, move or edit line, word etc.
ОтветитьWatching this video fnom mobile phone is just torture...Why can't you use a larger font in shell. It is even tiny for a monitor as well.
ОтветитьFish is probably heavier, but it has made my workflow so much faster and easier.
Ответитьhave not see any changes all commands works LOL
Ответитьthe completion in zsh is just too awesome too not use
ОтветитьI love zsh
ОтветитьConfiguring ZSH is much more confusing than BASH IMO but it’s worth it. Having more built in functionality is really nice. I think I might try something much more divergent in the future though like xonsh, fish, or elvish that doesn’t try to maintain bash compatibility. If I need bash compatibility I’ll just use bash and use something more modern for interacting with the system manually
ОтветитьThank you so much :)
ОтветитьZsh = Zoomer Shell
ОтветитьQUEATION:
Can i completely get rid of bash and just keep zsh on my system?
can i compile gentoo on a 32bit cpu? i have ultra low power core duo cpu
Ответитьboth
Ответитьhey, Mental. you are using gentoo with DWM. what is your idea about systemd and openrc? which one should i start with? thanks
ОтветитьThere is no learning curve to using ZSH, it's basically an upgraded Bash.
ОтветитьI used ZSH on Ubuntu for a week or two and didn't like it. However, I quite enjoy it on other systems that come by default with ZSH, e.g. Kali. Not sure why, but on Ubuntu I faced many bugs. I wanted to use the autocompletition that ZSH allows and that didn't work quite as well on Ubuntu as it does on Kali. I believe I had some other issues as well, unfortunately this was too long ago for me to remember.
Ответитьif you're a real GIGA CHAD, you make your own looking and functionality zsh in bash! I edit my bashrc to the point of satisfaction and pure awesomeness
ОтветитьScreen is way too small to watch on the mobile phone! Could you record it bigger next time, please?
ОтветитьThe thumbnail 🤌
ОтветитьHold backspace?
I just use ctrl+c and i’m on new line.
I like zsh but it’s pretty sad that some oneline commands can work on one shell but can’t work on other.
For example command :echo ‘something1\nsomething2” | tee -a some.file
Will add 2 rows in zsh with something1 and something2 content…. and 1 row with something1\nsomething2 in bash..
ZSH rocks! It’s as good as your video investigation is the total opposite of standard scientific inquiry, and also a standard sw review on the Tube.
However don’t feel bad: everything is going to fix-fit in place
I got a mac and first I did was changing the ZSH to BASH 😅
ОтветитьExporting PS1 and not using the exported LS_COLORS? I'm out.
Great thumbnail tho.
You could make the terminal font a bit smaller, it's too big in mobile, I can see it too much
ОтветитьI'm pretty happy with zsh. I tried ksh for a while, but just wasnt having it. Whatd you end up settling on?
ОтветитьImma call it Zell
ОтветитьBash is standard
Zsh is option
dont forget the compatibility to bash scripts for zsh! While writing scripts I want to paste snippets in my shell to test them out and dont want to switch to bash for that. And I dont want to write all my scripts in posix shell just to work with zsh too. And you see many #/usr/bin/env bash scripts in the wild. So that is another reason to stay at bash
ОтветитьCould not read most of the text, even n HD you should use a more classic resolution so fonts are larger. Most Unix/Linux cli commands will work on 80x24 screen as the baseline for text terminals
ОтветитьMan I really need to debloat my arch system
I'm using a full 300MB when idle
I love the fish shell, also the modernised Scripting syntax. Still, they really need to make it work with posix compliant shell syntax. Until then, I think zsh is quite nice
ОтветитьBash is old fashioned but reliable. Zsh is young and hip with the kids. Accurate way of describing both in a thumbnail IMO
ОтветитьThis is the most scientific bloat test I've ever seen.
ОтветитьI am a proud bash-boomer in my 20s.
ОтветитьHonestly powershell is the best shell
Yes it runs on linux
I think you'll find it's actually called GNU bash 😂
ОтветитьCan you please create telegram channel?
ОтветитьI prefer xonsh.
ОтветитьPersonally use zsh with the kali zshrc on Ubuntu. I did extend my command history for autosuggestions though.
ОтветитьCan you review it now that it has been about 2 years?
Ответитьwhat I dislike about bash is, that when I copy more lines of commands into bash, it will execute them automatically (except the last one) , it is annoying
is there away to change bash so it does it like zsh?
I use dash for scripts and zsh as a CLI, fight me bashtards
Ответитьi wonder why unix has the u censored
ОтветитьWhat about fish shell
Ответитьfish :)
Ответить
