My boyfriend has this problem and this video is a godsend. It’s so accurate I can’t even believe. He’s been a sex addict since he was a teenager and he uses it to deal with his emotional issues. Praying that he will be able to get help. I think he could be a really good person if he could just get help.

The guy that i was deeply in love with i think i was slipping into love addiction but we were both trying to practice healthy habits...we both were obessed with each other in a way...well he just passed away 3 weeks ago...being in love really keeps me from sex addiction...since he's passed I've been masterbating like everyday in fantasies of him in response to the trauma of his sudden unexpected passing...i get tempted to go back but my mind keeps me from doing it...i tell myself its not going to make things better, you're going to regret it, its not fulfilling...but the pain gets so deep sometimes i feel like i may sleep with someone i have no feelings or future with...i was sexually violated from a young age and my whole young adult life😩 he was the only one who ever understood me I feel so lonely without him

IDK Doctor. You are the expert, but I don’t understand why it is necessary for men, who had sex with adult women when they were teens, to see themselves as victims. You say “ that was sexual abuse. That wasn’t you getting lucky”. But that’s a very new point of view.

Obviously that would be frowned upon now, but it was considered light-hearted fun at the time, and what most 15-year-old boys dreamt of. Must we twist our happy memories into memories of abuse to fit this modern narrative? Is that really helpful?

My addiction is definitely #2 Psychological. I've always felt neglected or not loved starting with my family. Of course I've looked for intimacy with escorts and going to strip clubs.

There is no such thing as sex addiction and there is no such thing as god.

A little bit of theses fit but not really. My sex addiction is very different from those he listed. I was born feeling this way. I love sex it feels great and honestly I want it ever day of my life. Every second of my life since I was born. The best way to describe it is it like breathing. It's just some that you do with out thinking about it. It consumes al most all parts of my life. Sex is such a part of who I am it just comes naturally to me. On top of that I have a love addiction and a pleasing addiction. I live to sexually please women. To me and my addiction it's about pleasing women more than my self and I go to great lengths to do so. Putting my self in the same class as donwan or Casanova. Personally I have nothing but respect for woman. And find everything about woman sexy and beautiful. I could have sex with a 100 woman in a day which I have and still want more. I have never used woman for sex though. The sex was not gratifying unless the women achieved orgasm before it was finished. There is so much more to my sexual addiction but I would have to write a book to list it at this point. Remember this sex should be about respect for both.

I have a problem of identifying emotions and then when i feel negative or lonely or something like that - i have an urge to stimulate myself with dopamine of some kind. So i tend to have self destrucitve ideas that paradoxicaly make me feel something better then what i was feeling. Sex, alcohol, impulsive actions, retail therapy, flirting….

My belief is that one may fall into a few of those categories not just one.
My only disagreement is the idea of a chemical imbalance in the brain.
This idea has no scientific evidence to back it but rather was promoted by the pharmacitical industry to allow them to sell chemical pills.
If we don't know what the brains chemistry should be normally How then can we determine an imbalance.

I’m #6….I struggle with bipolar disorder but my sex addiction came at the young age of 6 years old. No one touched me I was never abused but I was obsessed with sex already masterbating at that age and continued till I had sex finally at 13 (would have wanted to sooner but no opportunity) from 14-16 I was seeking it out consistently and became the school slut having threesomes already and fucking 3 guys in one weekend. It was less later in my early adulthood but still needing to masterbate all the time even tho I was in a relationship. But by my mid 20s my disorder hit hard n my addiction became dangerous. I was fucking 2-4 a day everyday for months constantly needing more and more I got stds 3 times in one year (I’m clean now) I couldn’t stop cheating on my spouse n still masterbate about 5 times a day to keep myself from sleeping around so much. I’ve always been addicted to porn and sexting since I was maybe 7-8 years old.

Interesting. I used to have a mood component since I struggled with depression and anxiety which I found out 90% of that was because I had been chronically sleep depriving myself for a decade. I used to have a spiritual component since I was sleep deprived I couldn't think or introspect so I didn't know who I was. Which is a creative. Now I just need to fix my biological and psychological triggers.

Intimacy anorexia… that one hit me. My sex addiction is getting the better of me. I try being lovely dovey with my spouse but all the thoughts on the back of my head make it impossible to truly connect with her. I crave other women on the regular and it’s making my spouse feel lonely. “It’s like you’re here but you’re not here, you’re some where else in your head” is something I get told often.

Wondering if some of the, what are thought to be sex addictions are really sexual dysfunction such as PGAD which can make it seem like someone wants sex all the time when it's actually the opposite.

I don't think I have any of those issues. Could it be that I'm just human. And human's are sexual beings. And I am single so I'm not getting laid. I mean the guy that has a woman doesn't have to watch porn and masturbate - he's getting laid on a regular bases. Don't we all need to have our sexual needs meet? Could it be that I just want to have an orgasms too? That I just want to see a naked woman too? I mean what in life is more exciting that a naked woman? So partly I think it's normal. But also there could be too much time on my hands and I just need some kind of stimulation. Definitely do it more often that necessary though. There probably is a ring the bell feed the dog thing going on.

My question is... Is there a connection with undiagnosed adhd people and sex addiction. I'm 42 f and have only just been diagnosed with adhd. One of my odd traits growing up was being highly sexual like a teenage boy and masterbating alot. I never craved the attention or validation from the person... Just the passion of the encounter itself. I've always thought us adhd people are very instinct based... And when I'm its the physical side I chase... Adrenaline / dopamine rush and how it makes me feels not the emotional side...I don't consider that ... I hope someone understands lol
