You’ve been helpful to me. Got back into the guitar after I retired and I definitely play better now than I did 35 years ago. It’s never too late to learn. Great for keeping your mind sharp but a little rough on my hands. Thumb on my fretting hand hurts like hell.

Glad I found and subscribed to your channel today. Thanks for the free lesson! This applied to me perfect- After playing almost every day for 35 years I’ll take it to the next level! I’m self taught from a book called Rhythm guitar, never had lessons. Also learned from friends, and monkey see monkey do. imagine that. !

Great video thank you very much for taking the time to do these videos. 20 years ago I was in a head-on collision and suffered severe nerve damage and as a result I cannot play my guitar more than 5 or 6 minutes at a time. I've had four surgeries on my shoulders my neck and my hands and now I'm able to play as long as I want so I'm basically relearning how to play the guitar.
Videos like yours are a tremendous help. Thanks again

Mine is a similar story but being born a drummer back in '61, I learned bits and pieces of guitar from guitarists I've known a long the way.
I never took up guitar seriously in the early years being focused on all things drums!
Until an industrial accident involving my left hand and wrist.
After the cast came off,
I was going to PT for 8 weeks but once that ran out I thought playing the guitar would be as good exercise as what I was doing at PT.
So I started playing what little I knew over and over.
That was almost 20 years ago and with the help of the interweb and guitar in hand, I made the mistake of teaching myself how to play.
I say mistake because I was learning only what I wanted to play which was ok but without any of the understanding or discipline of continuity to proper lessons or feedback about the bad habits I was developing.
But working 2 jobs everyday and raising a family left the idea of formal lessons in the luxury dept. Something I could ill afford.
Anyway, I found your channel now and after watching a few videos and shorts, I hit the subscribe button!
Maybe with your help ill stop being a "long time beginner" and graduate to "life long beginner"!
There is a difference, and it's not as subtle as it may
sound! 😉👍
So let's get to it!

Me through this whole video: yup, yup, that's me, yup. I did that, I'm doing that. I've had this feeling I should be doing what you said here, but I think this really pushed me over the edge. Get on that looper pedal and start finding out what works while anchored around the chord roots. Thanks man! You explain it very clearly and I appreciate your lessons.

Thanks for the great lesson!
I have realized something while practising the ideas in this video. If I play Gmaj scale notes (all seven notes) over this progression, it sounds pretty good. Then I figured out Gmaj scale includes both Am & D chords, and therefore it sounds good. Just another way of looking at it (F# note is also in Gmaj scale)..

Yip I'm stuck rusty, example,if I play Em,c major d major chords? I use em pentatonic over it it sounds OK? But I fell it sound like boring? Just like a pattern than a solo u no! I get frustrated with it,I don't no what to practice how to progress or were to go from here mate, I'm just stuck in 1 pattern with the same repeated licks if u no what I mean mate. If I'm shown or told I'm good at picking up things I admit buddy.

Thanks Rusty! Describes me perfectly. While I can play a lot of memorized songs from the Eagles to Jimi Hendrix, I can’t improvise very well and just play the same pentatonic minor/major scale runs to a backing tract and triads to a backing track. A good guitarist can play by ear and that is my goal. Embarrassing to admit I’ve been playing for 20 years.

You hit the nail right on the head . That's exactly where I've been stuck for years. A 30 yr beginner but I've gotta say thanks for this video.its like a light bulb just went on for me.the slide up to the F# and the chromatic run just opened up the fretboard for me. I was already aware of chord tones as I play bass as well so the penny really dropped for me seeing this video. I'm so glad I came across it by fluke as well. I've subscribed and defo liked. Thanks big time u just got me out of a decade long rut and I can't thank u enough for that.

I just wanted to tell you that all the years that I have been playing guitar I'm kind of like you were you are a great guitar teacher and I've had a lot of teachers all they want to do is show off I'm a great bass player but I've always wanted to be a lead player and I'm sure that everyone would agree with me please keep up the great work. 🎶🎸

Hi Rusty, I am confused here. The Am pentatonic is easy to understand but one can't use it in D. I see you using the D notes rahter than the Am pentatonic. Can you explain the difference? Does one change from using the Am pentatonic to D maj scale?
