What are some of YOUR favorite cult docs?
ОтветитьThank you, this is so interesting.
ОтветитьBuddhafield is also a great documentary. Absolutely wonderful and only with videos from inside the cult
ОтветитьWhat is the title to your interview with the man from 1 taste? Also. I'm new, and unaware of your other channels. Great channel,BTW. Really enjoy ur style.
ОтветитьThe Deep End…that woman is kinda creepy…just sayin..
ОтветитьWild, Wild Country was disturbing! I’m a GenX-er so I remember those weirdos! 😳
ОтветитьI have seen most of these😮
ОтветитьSome cult doc recommendations:
Children of God: Lost & Found (TFI/COG/David Berg)
i-Witness: One man and many wives (Alex Joseph and his polygamist family)
1 man & His 29 Children (there's actually 2 of these with similar names but they are both about ultranonce Tom Green and his destitute collection of wives)
Strong City (Wayne Bent)
The Land of The Body (the Body)
The Love Prophet (Children of God/The Family)
A and A2 (Aum Shinrikyo)
Thankyou so much for mentioning Teal swann, I have seen some of her videos and always wondered if that is where she was heading with it all. I'm going to go check out that documentary right after I finish this video thankyou so much.
ОтветитьHow does someone have a channel covering religious fundamentalism and cults and not know who Jerry Falwell is?
ОтветитьThat satanic ritual abuse was downplayed here was very disappointing when, in fact, there have been people who have spoken out about how they were abused in the Mormon church in Idaho and the temple in Utah by high ranking bishops. These people claim also that there is a Satanic coven operating behind the veil of the Mormon church, also running drugs and trafficking.
ОтветитьWild Wild Country is one of those stories that seems like it couldn't have happened, but it did. Every stage of it is weirder and yes, wilder than the next.
ОтветитьI have seen some of the docs you recommended, they are really good and it might be why I stumbled on your channel. I saw a fiction recently that was very good as well, it showed the turmoil that can arise when reality and terrible events are lived through the religious beliefs.
Watch : Women talking.
You could do a book version of this: Must read! I saw a book that was titled Educated, I am not sure but I think it was written by a woman living in a cult.
Another book that dives into the satanic Panic is
the boy who was raised like a dog.
They were red tunics
ОтветитьI will never understand how people can call one BS story a cult and their own CLEAR BS story a Religion.
The Level of Ego and ignorance behind that ..
holy shit. You mentioned cache valley/logan utah and I went to a rehab there a while ago and fuck now I'm realizing that rehab was SUPER culty and there was a reason why they (and their predominantly mormon staff) were so awful to me (disabled openly pagan lesbian) and kept punishing me while the other (predominantly mormon) patients were always praised and sided with whenever there was an issue. Holy fucking SHIT.
ОтветитьAmong these groups, Scientology is really in a league of its own, I don`t think it is fair to mix it in with the Mormons or fundamentalist Christianity or Islam - Scientology was maliciously created open-eyed and intentionally by a narcissist personality. It has openly evil and damaging practices openly prescribed and declared by L.R.H. -
To equate that to Christianity with its very varied and diverse history e.g. is highly problematic. Christianity has a much more valid "societal alternative" to all-pervasive commercialism and individualism. It is much more open to interpretation and "finding your own christianity".
Maybe Mormonism is at a half-way point between the two with its weird onion levels and "Mormon in good standing" status.
Warren Jeffs was "known for being a stickler for the rules and for discipline."
ОтветитьLoved this episode! Love you guys! Great to see both of you working together to help raise awareness. Thank you guys, both of you, for the work you’re doing. You both have helped me feel validated and find more healing, after growing up extreme LDS in small-town Utah. I’m still afraid to peak up about my experience the LDS faith. My family is in a cult and it’s helped to create narcissists. I’m neglected and subjected to family abuse still. I was literally left for dead. My own mother tries telling me to read my scriptures and o back to church, saying I will be cured of an incurable medical condition I was born with. Instead of helping me, my Wn family fears what I may say openly and honestly and how that threatens the bubble they choose to live within, which insulates them from taking pat in my life or involving themselves with outsiders. The shunning has lasted my lifetime. It’s led to severe emotional suffering. Th only support I have is through medical care and social workers. I’m afraid to speak about the “bad parent” type church because man of my friends are still LDS. One day, I’d like to be on your show. I’m jus scared to take the backlash.
ОтветитьALL cults are made up lies.
ОтветитьLost track how many times I said , ew, ick. Then to acknowledge these wacky doodles achieved their goal. To end my rights as a woman to do as I deem necessary, really pisses me off. I hate all religions!
ОтветитьI love your outfit
ОтветитьI dont know why but I'm fascinated by these cults. I really dont understand their thinking 😊
ОтветитьWould love some recommendations for documentaries outside North America
ОтветитьSavage Messiah - Ant Hill Kids cult
ОтветитьJack Parsons (founder of JPL) and L. Ron Hubbard were both disciples of Aleister Crowley.
ОтветитьThat is so unfair to blame Christians for voting for Trump when the alternative was a woman who belongs in prison for many crimes. I didn't want either one.
ОтветитьTeal Swan is interesting. She claimed to be sewn into a body arount 8 years old. In spite of the fact, that and 8 year old can't fit inside of an adult body cavity. It's really weird
ОтветитьI watched Keep Sweet Pray and Obey and one of the things that was funny to me (probably the only thing actually, that doc was heartbreaking) was the Mormon governor of Utah criticising FLDS for being culty. Like sir. Pot, kettle.
ОтветитьI understand this reluctance to admit you were in a cult. Raised as a Jehovah's Witness, I separated once I came of age. For years I maintained a fondness based on my memories and associations. Only recently have I been able to admit the cult status of the organization?
On another note, Kumaré sounds super interesting. I need to see that.
My two favorite podcasts together, Shelise and John. It doesn't get any better than this.
ОтветитьYOU KNOW ITS A CULT WHEN THA PERSON SAYS HE IS GOD FOR ONE , WANTS SEX , CHEATS ON HIS WIFE , WANTS ALL YOUR MONEY , CONTROLLS ,YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ETC , AND PEOPLE ARE NOT GOD !! THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD , AND PEOPLE ARE NOT GOD !!!
ОтветитьI feel like any organization that is trying to manipulate you, steer you away from rational thinking and make you fearful in any way, it’s a cult.
ОтветитьI was hoping for some good cult docs to watch, but ive seen ALL of those. 😢
ОтветитьThere is a Canadian movie (not a documentary) from the early 1980's called "Ticket to Heaven". It's about someone being pulled into a cult in California (ala the "Moonies"), and his family and friends trying to deprogram him. It's dated and cinematography isn't great, but it is an interesting story.
ОтветитьA list of the 10 would be awesome.
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьIndividual sovereignty, oxymoronic when applied to finite points of references (humans). Love the idea of the victim hood of deconstruction , what an awesome cult oh oh I mean community ❤
ОтветитьI watch every cult documentaries i can find
ОтветитьAll religions are cults. ALL OF THEM. They all manipulate people from birth. There is no education of all the other religions. Just their religion. It seeks to CONTROL. They repeat mantras & verses & songs with no choice involved. They keep you with GUILT.
It is all about control.
A cult is defined by any group led by a charismatic and self-appointed leader who requires total devotion whos beliefs and practices are outside the norms of society.
ОтветитьI was kind of on my way out of Mormonism anyway, but when I saw Going Clear, and noticed that the founder was a charismatic fraud who was constantly on the run from law enforcement, and wore a fake military uniform, and he ended up being succeeded by a strict authoritarian, who ruthlessly targeted dissension among the members…
It freaked me out.
John is definitely one of my biggest heros in the area of exposing cults. His catalogue is HUGE so I recommend everyone to dive in to the world of Mormon Stories! Great recommendations from both of you although there was just one I wasn't already familiar with. Will definitely watch Kumare as soon as possible!
ОтветитьAll religions are cults; Catholic, Islam, Jews, Jains, Hindus, Tibetan Buddhists, etc. I've never known why these large scale Cults get off the hook. Then of course there is politics, scientism, business, medication, health care, etc.
The bottom line is, all belief is make believe... a result of thought, sustained by thought.
So what do these people believe now or are most of them atheists?
