After 40 years, Puerto Rico’s one (and only?) rock station signed off the air after playing this song. It’s interesting that a Canadian prog rock band became so beloved in PR. Long live Alfa Rock 105.7 WCAD!

Earlier this year, WCAD-FM in San Juan, Puerto Rico, signed off for good after 40 years. This was the very first song they played in 1978... and also the very last one they played before shutting down.

I came back listening to this Song again in 2018. I thought it was a piece of fiction turned into an amazing song.

I was wrong. Saga described people like Stephen Paddock. They do exist.

The very last song ever played by this great band in concert, in front of its most loyal audience.

I got to meet Michael Sadler after Saga's farewell concert here in Puerto Rico, he's a very calm, down to earth guy, we shook hands and talked for a bit. He told me that he'd never understood why Perfectionist performed so well in PR. He said that the waltz-like rhythm of the song didn't coincide at all with PR's own, fast paced "Salsa" music, but he said he wasn't complaining.

He also gave us a minute of silence in the concert for the victims of last year's hurricane Maria, lots of respect for him.

Great band, great music, great guy.

When K-She Radio, the rock station in St. Louis, Missouri in the U.S., first played this song when it was new in the late 70s, I went completely nuts over it lol! I had to find out what band it was, so I called the station and finally got through to ask the DJ, Rick Bayless, and he said it was The Perfectionist by Saga. I bought the album and the whole entire album is absolutely phenomenal! I bought several other albums by Saga and they are a phenomenal band!!

This is the band that got me interested into rock back in the 70's. Still in it and will still in it forever.

Thanks for posting this! I've not been without this album since it came out, but this is my absolute fave from it, & it's good to know I'll have a resource to listen to it if all my devices wipe out. Sadler had an incredible voice; just saw a vid of them doing this song in 2012 & was glad to hear it's held up well. He sure seemed to still be having a good time performing it.

This song reminds me of a girl who had a crush on me at university in the 90s. I often wondered whatever happened to her.

Pure Nostalgia!! I was a teen growing up in Puerto Rico in the 70 and 80 when this great band who I had the privilege to hear and watch in concert in San Juan. I am 56 and still love their music that never gets old. Long Live Saga and Alfa Rock 106.

This was the last song played in Alfa Rock 105.7 FM on March 3, 2018 at 12:06:30 am when Station was closed. The best Rock station in Puerto Rico. 💔

Ay me muero...I'm going to die! Circa 1978 and I was on my way to the dorm at InterAmerican University in Hato Rey listening Alfa Rock and then it was there. "The Perfectionist". I needed to know more about this band it was like from out of space, cosmical and so melodic. I heard Mr. Davila of Alfa ROck104.7 announced Stereo Warehouse and it was an instant detour before the dorm. Oh my Gosh I was mesmerized and blown away. It was like a cult connection from that moment on. Viva Saga and the reminiscing moments with Alfa Rock and Stereo Warehouse.

I don't live in PR but I have a car there, and the first button on my car stereo still belongs to 105.7 even though I don't even know what's playing on that frequency anymore. I do it in honor of the rock station that was crucial to my musical appreciation as a teen and young adult.
Trivia, 'The Perfectionist' is not their only Rock Waltz, 'Time To Go' is the other one and both are about 2 crazy, delusional people.

Went to the first Saga concert in PR. Everything was just unforgetable perfect.

Groupe entendu et vu en 1982 ou 3 sur FR3, émission L'écho des bananes, de Lamy Vincent. Ai acheté illico le live In Transit. Fan Club France à Quievrechain, Philippe SETAN, rue de l'abattoir, à 15 km de chez moi. Redecouverte / So good, so far : de nouveau fan !

I grew up in Woodstock Ontario Canada. Listened to these guys all the time. Saw them at London music Hall in Canada twice I think LOL. I still listen to them all the time.

Wow!!!!!!❤️ I don't know how I missed this band over the years but I just discovered them! Absolutely brilliant!!. What an amazing bunch of musicians.... This band is so tight!! The lead singer's voice carries so well wow!! I'm in utter amazement!!! What a band!! These guys could take the rest of them to school.. hats off to these guys!!! Hope they keep on rocking
