ОтветитьI think I am going to agree that Parallels is the best. The most intuitive one.
UTM is fun to play around, but it caused some trouble for me as well in terms of stability. Virtual Box is a no go!
Amazing. Thanks a lot for the video
ОтветитьParallels is waaay too expensive and on top of that it only supports ARM.. I think that this time i am forced to choose surface pro 9 instead of a MacBook.. unfortunately
ОтветитьUTM isn't running so well on my Macbook Pro 2023.
ОтветитьI am using MacBook Pro M2 Max.
I need to use Kali-Linux and Windows 10 what should I use? I am considering Parallels, VMware Fusion, UTM. Definitely UTM for Kali but what’s best for Windows 10?
virtual box just drop apple silicon support
ОтветитьI love how you do your videos ❤❤
I have a question. you did not say if you have issues to run kali on utm or all the tools what you need for hac*ing
Do you think it is the right time to buy an expensive MacBook Pro or should I invest my money in a windows laptop ?
I did watch you video about which laptop is the best and I really want a Mac but I will not spend 2K for a Laptop where I can't run kali with al the tools for has*ing for free
Thank you for this video @davidbombal and the many others! Have you since tried VirtualBox 7.x., this many months later? Will you do a part 2? I am replacing my old MacBook intel with either an M1 Pro or M2
Ответитьgreat info. thanks David.
Ответитьi’m a java developer but i’d like to get into security. i don’t need to run a lot of stuff but id like to be able to run utm with kali and maybe another vm to do some penetration test. can i get away with the base model m2 air, maybe on a cooling base? can’t find the 16gb ram configuration on discount
Ответитьwhat are the specs on this m2 mb air though?
Ответитьhello i m not able to install win xp or win 7 x86 in utm in my macbook air m1 can u pls help me
ОтветитьInteresting, I am sort of sure the reason is you are emulating everything. On my main bare metal KVM it won’t work because I use DMA pass through and SR-IOV devices like the intel NIC. Obviously you cannot split a single pci into many pieces and assign to two bare metal types at same time. One or the other needs to be in control of addressing DMA. Both cannot control and assign same slot or channel independent of each other. If paravirtualizing or emulating then it can work. Alternatively if the whole pci is passed to a virtual machine then that virtual machine can again pass it to a nested virtual machine, but you cannot have two items such as say esxi and kvm running on the same L1 layer and then pass one non sr-IOV pci device for full use of multiple virtual machines at same time. SR-IOV saves the day for that situation.
A more realistic situation is nested virtualization. KVM works well with that. I have many test setups with vms nested within vms. It just depends of the use case. But yeah for virtbox. It is my least favorite. Hyperv I am not that fond of.
On Mac I use VMware player. It works very well for what I want. But yeah if you need stuff done ESXi or KVM is way to go. They just go crazy if you dedicate the whole machine and all the hardware to it.
For the workaround on that issue of the architecture, I had success running aarch64 Linux on apple. Then inside that VM run a podman or docker.
Pay or no pay, I tend to prefer KVM. The paid options for KVM was pretty solid to be honest when company paid for the systems supporting it.
KVM is still my favorite. But as always, top quality info in the video. Bloody well done as just about every other vid. Especially like your interviews with other people. That is awesome
Thats crazy. Explains the price
Ответитьenjoyed your complete and contrast 👍
ОтветитьWhat about Qemu?
ОтветитьHello David I will install Bwapp for m1 mac but no matter what I did can you help me or all the training I received will be wasted
ОтветитьExcept my iPad Pro 12.9 has the same chip BUT CANT DO ANY VM 🤦♂️
ОтветитьThank you for the valuable information
ОтветитьCan anyone advise if you can run multiple vm's on one M2 Mac studio each with a dedicated line? Would it be possible to run 20 VM's at the same time? Thanks.
ОтветитьRunning Win 7 8 10 x64 etc on M1. Anyone here do it & benchmark it?
Would like to be able to run good ole VHDs / VHDx VMs on the M1 if at all possible?
Great demonstration, M2 chips on servers and datacenters would wipe out others easily.
ОтветитьCan you try do the same in a m2 pro machine baseline ? Very impressing video , I am wondering what MacBook to buy for uni to learn cybersecurity. Help!
ОтветитьI'm able to run 4 VM in VMware no problem on i7 4790k Hackintosh running Mojave. The only thing is if im running Windows 10 I need to make sure the updates are done otherwise it will utilise all CPU
ОтветитьHi i buy a macbook pro m2 32gb and i want to install windows so i can use revit and lumion are 5D rendering program. Is this machine good for want i wand to do ?
ОтветитьHow’s virtual box now??
ОтветитьUTM is 9.99 euros in the EU's Apple Store.
ОтветитьAny success with the M1?anyone?
ОтветитьThanks David, I was wondering if I should buy an M2 and this seals the deal!
ОтветитьSeeing David running 4 Virtualization Software in the same machine I thought David had just lost his mind, but it was a very interesting experiment indeed. Thank you David for making the comparisons, I needed to know exactly this!
ОтветитьThank you so much
Great Content
need to know if we can use UTM emulation on M1 or M2 for emulate High sierra and work on ableton without problems? I'm using ableton on my old 2012 McBK with a 32bit soundcard that is no supported on M1 and M2 architecture and wanna be able to use it on this architecture, maybe emulation is the way?
ОтветитьIs the Macbook good for hacking?
Ответитьdoes VMWare supports different architectures? cause I didn't heard David talking about this in the video.
Ответитьit will kill your battery
ОтветитьThanks for all the valuable info David. I have watched both your videos and it sounds like if I wanted to get a computer for purely pentesting, it would be easier to stay with a x64 instead of ARM since all the apps would work seamlessly/compatible as the underlying base OS is x64.
That being said, it is again recommended to work on VMs for pentesting to keep everything contained to that vm instead of having your base OS affected by malware etc.
So that leads me to having a x64 laptop with good RAM, installing Kali Linux as the base OS and then using all sorts of vms including a kali linux vm on top of the kali linux base OS etc. Is that the best approach if I were getting a pentesting oriented laptop today? Do folks do it this way?
I have an Intel Core i7-8700, 32GB RAM, and no any problem with Virtual Machines. So on my PC board now working Win10, WinXP, Linux Ubuntu and finally Win98 working fine. Why u blame other processors???
ОтветитьHow are you running an x86 64-bit version of an operating system on the M1?
ОтветитьI may need to play with it some more, but I've had graphics issues with using UTM to run Ubuntu Arm and then getting a GUI running. Also, what wifi adapter should one use if wanting to test wifi attacks on a M1 Mac? I have the Alfa AWUS036ACM but it simply doesn't work on the M1 architecture.
ОтветитьHow about crossover?
ОтветитьI tried to run x86 Linux distro on utm on m1 air but is unusable , realy slow
ОтветитьThe selected boot image contains the word 'arm64' but the guest architecture is 'x86_64'. Please ensure you have selected an image that is compatible with 'amd64 ???????????
ОтветитьDavid Bombal what macbook or mac mini are you using
Ответитьthat's great
ОтветитьCan Windows Server be installed on a UTM?
Ответить
