RTX 4070 vs 3070 Ti - Is This a Joke?

NVidea named all their cards one level off.

4080 = 70 series.

4070 = 60 series.

With FSR 3.0 knocking at our door I think rtx 3070ti will be much more value for money product than 4070

I need some thoughts. Currently im planning to buy a new laptop. Should i buy the last year flow x16 with the RTX 3070TI or the 2023 legion pro 5 with the RTX 4070.

Hi, I tested an ASUS TUF 15.6 RTX4070 and the fps in Apex were a little different, I got 240 fps in a normal match with the lowest settings and 1080p, with max settings it was 150 fps why is that difference?

I have this laptop (Legion 5 pro, 3070ti, 6800h) since dec 2022. But the only main issue I'm facing is that. I always get too yellow yellow or yellowish tinge even though I have tried my best using Color Profile. I assume there is something missing. I'm sure the screen can be white but due to wrong profiles nothing is working for me non HDR is better far white compared to HDR mode is tooo yellow. Can you please help me. With the correct default profile which can make it white and bright. I have tried to make it white using custom profile but then the screen is kinda dull. Using that profile. I have profiles like A69 or some such. Please guide. When I connect my screen to a Dolby Vision support TV it's all white and awesome. Also note that the screen of my laptop also supports Dolby Vision and gsync and free sync.

4070 is 12gb not 8gb

I Hate that most of the price for these 40 series laptops comes from the cpu :/
Like…. I get these companies wanna raise the bar on what is usual for these different specifications for laptops…. But a 4070 does not need that powerful of a cpu. The thing just needs a 13700H, which is pretty much the same as the 12700H, but more energy efficient.
Same with stuff like the 4050 laptops. 3050ti laptops had an 8 core cpu, which was pretty good since most people buying these laptops wanted to record mostly cpu intensive games, since the 3050ti could still record very well. Some of these, did come with a 6 core cpu, but those were just a matter of preference if you wanted to save or spend a bit extra for more cpu performance.
Now even the 4050 mobile sufferers from this. Most 3050tis came with that 8 core cpu, and 16GBs of ram, but for some reason 4050 laptops with a more suitable i5-12500H come with 8GBs of ram instead, with the less fitting i7-12650H configurations having more ram. People want the cheapest for these entry level laptops, while also getting 16GBs of ram since that’s pretty much the standard even for entry level no matter which type of entry level parts they are (desktop builds with RX6400s and Arc 380s still have 16GBs of ram) and people don’t wanna risk losing their warranty to add more ram.

While fast vram can be good, making the vram too fast when there isn’t enough VRAM means there will be some wasted power.
Like…. The 3070ti mobile having the same power draws as the 3080/3080ti mobile means there’s really not much difference. It might be overshadowed by the other higher end cards, and won’t seem viable (which is probably why people went 3060m that generation cuz of the efficiency)
The 4070 not having that much more performance is really dumb, but the thing is also more energy efficient. The only other thing I’d say, is if they made the bus width 160bit for 10GBs of power. I think the reason why they’re configuring these laptops this way, is so the vram chips take less space, and also because more chips are a bit more expensive than chips with higher capacities. It’s like buying two 1TB M.2 SSDs for 150 each, when a single 2TB SSD can be 250 instead.
Like, if we look at the 3050 vs 4050 mobile. Setting both to 75 watts shows the 4050 benefits from the higher vram, (including other factors) despite the fact the vram speed is the same speed as the last gen 3050 (btw the 3050 had 4GB 128bit at 192BG/s effective, while the 4050 has 6GB 96bit at 192GB/s effective)
Even if the 4070 reaches the same performance as the 3070ti, each generation has to have some improvements, which lots of the other 40 mobile series GPUs have. Even the 4080 mobile is better than the 3080ti mobile despite the vram being 12GB instead, because the 3080ti mobile only really made use of that VRAM in professional work, not gaming. Meanwhile the 4090 mobile having more cores and such, it can actually make use of that extra vram in games, making it basically close to the same performance as the 4080 desktop.

So how much worse is a laptop 4070 gpu compared to a desktop 4070? If desktop gpus eat twice the amount of power sometimes surely they are better?

Now just do the 3070ti vs the 4070ti, that seems like it would be more fair, or use a 3070 instead of the ti

Bottom line? - the newer gpu is climate change friendlier - which means users must be "resilient" in their way of dealing with the whole thing (resilient = learn to suck it).

Because thats pretty much the only selling point for anything less than a 4080, if they released FG on older cards then more people would simply stay with their old cards, FG and DLSS are supposed to be features that breathe new life into old cards, not the selling point for the newest generation of cards, Nvidia must be crazy

In my opinion, the wattage is kinda' significant when comparing these GPU. These extra bucks will save a lot of power if considering for future.
But 128-bit memory bus... WHY!?

Ibought last year a rog strix g15 (3070ti and intel i9) and when I saw the new rog strix with 4070 and cheaper than the one I bought I was so concern (i want to think its because the g15 has a better screen). But seen that the 4070 its not a big deal, I feel better XD

Hi Jarod, great channel of yours! I currently own a Laptop with an Intel i7 11370 and rtx 3060, Do you think it's worth upgrading to an Asus rog strix G18 with it 13980hx and rtx 4070?

Its pretty shocking though that nvidia still put 8gb of Vram on the 4070 and the memory bus is shocking 128 vs 256 bit on the 3070, the overall performance boost from the 3000 series are poor

I am currently deciding between two laptops, a 3070ti and a 4070. Have to decide today. The 3070ti has a 1440 screen and the 4070 is at 1080p. The 4070 also has a slightly newer CPU (12700H vs 6800H). While I do play games a bit, mostly it's older games (2+ years and more), like StarCraft 2, Red Alert 3, WoW, EVE, Civ 6, etc. All other parts being the same, but the 4070 is $150 more expensive.

My theory is, on older games, the 3070ti's extra horsepower will give a better experience overall.

Thoughts?

I mean the big improvement from 30 to 40 is Just that you can comfortably Run a 4070 on 80 Watts without Losing a Lot of Performance. Therefore it can Be built into more Laptops having Performance Last Gen could only offer in chunky gaming bricks.

the lower 1% lows on the 4070 are probably related to the smalled memory bus size, not the cpu

The thing is, the 4070 has over 1000 less shading units less rops, tmus and rt cores and yet it performs better. Im no nvidia fanboy but considering that it's a big leap in performance

Your logic is flawed, the future will have support for DLSS+FG, so it would be generally more future proof. I personally would stay with the newer as the legacy games aren't a good benchmark and do nothing to show the future capabilities of the GPU. You even showed the average benefit was 53% better on games that have the newer technology enabled, but you're trying to downplay that and that's not cool, because you're not going to say jack when the 4070 (which can cost less in some laptops) ends up being more future proof.
