This does not work on my iphone and says the site took too long to respond. The firewall is off. What do you think i missed.

Conor thanks I run linux mint made into a server, but would be nice from my laptop or another pc to access it , have any easy ways ?

For anyone having issues, you need to:
1. make your internet connection private so other devices on the same network can access it
2. Either write a firewall rule or temporarily disable it for private networks

For those having trouble with wifi networks, I suggest that you connect the devices onto a local hotspot like a phone.

So my macbook is connected via ethernet and serves to my iphone with ethernet sharing. What's the procedure? With your technique, I can't find my Ip address in the terminal. even when i finally found it, did what you did and it didn't work.

also if you're on windows and the command 'ipconfig' is not recognized, you have to run the command line as an administrator (right click run as admin)

actually you can find your mac ip just from preferences=>network=>advanced easily without typing anything in terminal and looking for that en-0 thing
