How mobile games are designed to SCAM you.

A few updates after having seen the response to this video:

1. From the feedback I've gotten, Pokemon Unite is one of the less malicious Free-to-Play games in this genre. I still stand by the fact that it employs manipulative strategies to earn more from players, but in hindsight there were a few things I could have done to save me spending quite as much as I did. That said, I don't want this to take away from the key message of the video, which still stands and is still incredibly important.

2. Most of the shots in the video and screen recordings were sourced by my editor on my editors account, and so are more to demonstrate the points being made, as opposed to being representative of my own gameplay.

3. I've been informed that it is currently possible to upgrade an item to level 30 without paying real money in Pokemon Unite - this hasn't always been the case and isn't made clear to the player - it seems to be a limited time thing - but nonetheless an oversight on my part!

4. I am completely happy to admit that I am far from the best Pokemon Unite player. That said, while it is true that people with more skill can certainly get away with paying less, for the vast majority of the player base, paying is still the key legitimate way to make progress.

I personally think that the game industry is very similar to the gambling/casino indusry, they give you a dopeamine hit real quick, then they take it away just as fast. I understand how Arun feels because he is a F2P player but for most P2W people they have already accepted this reality. Also i dont think that the 175 gems = 5 dollars is really true because you can buy way more for way less when you wait for the right deals. i do also think the gacha systems are not good because its just glorified gambling, actually, its just gambling. The time crunch is very real, in raid, they host these events where every week or so they have a 2x chance for legendries or something. So it goes up from 0.5 percent to 1 percent, wow, so very generous of them.

You just did a huge service to the people who watch this video….after watching this im going to skip call of duty this year. I don’t play much but just on MW2 over the past year with the battle pass I never complete and from buying those addictive custom weapons or having an advantage in DMZ I spent about 600$….I know myself and if I buy MW3 I’m going to get the $100 one and then I don’t trust myself when I log in to play to not make an impulse buy which averages 20$ a pop.

This is very true I honestly don’t pay for any of this kinda stuff but, making you want to or you have spend so much time in the game and gives little back I realized this in the new assassin’s creed games with micro transactions and it frustrated me in the
Game instead of enjoying the game

Despite having a battlepass for Overwatch 2, It's not actually P2W. If you want to get really overpowered characters in Overwatch, You don't have to spend anything. It's almost like they completely scraped paying in their game and replaced it for playtime or, Completed matches. Every single character needs a certain amount of completed matches to unlock with no options of paying to skip completed matches. The battlepass can legit only get you skins and nothing else, And also some stuff I probably don't know about but still. Overwatch isn't P2W. Btw i'm not trying to hate on you for putting Overwatch on there because there was a point long ago where I thought Overwatch was bad. I'm just trying to encourage people to give the game a try. It's also free on PS5 and I think PC (probably not) play overwatch!!!!1!!! (i spent my sweet time writing this so you better atleast listen to me)

If something doesn't align with your values, it's your responsibility to boycott it and stick to your own integrity

There's another way to win that social pressure, don't participate at all and actually have a remaining bank account when all your friends go circling the drain... You might not be having as much fun in the moment, but you have the option to have whatever fun you want...

Not sure if its just me, but i hate paying for items in games. And I i don't. I for some reason find more satisfaction and gratification doing everything myself, even though it takes longer, and seeing those results. Interesting video though!

Play rocket league sideswipe. There's no in-app purchases, and it's fun.

This makes a whole lot of sense. Although for Pokémon Unite I was able to climb to the highest rank in the game within just a month of playing. I'm not entirely sure if it was just luck or the bad matchmaking in the game that helped me but I never felt the urge to make any purchases in this game.

I'd rather play mobile legends (MLBB) than that pokemon unite. In MLBB skins have no effect gameplay except in graphics and design.
Yes they also have very few expensive cheat skin but it has only minimal effect

Im a heavy mobile gamer but ive never spent any cent in the app store. I think its pointless to spend money in virtual stuff i will drop eventually. I think this isnt about wining but having fun. I will sometimes also download apks to download for free peemium apps. In this aspect im a pretty mean person.

Please make sure to differentiate between Delevopers and Managers/Business People. The developers are the ones programming the game and designing most of the gameplay relevant aspects of the game. Sure, they implement the bad things, but it's a choice made by the higher ups and the managers and directors. Monetization isn't something the developers have any say about
