The ruler option in the inventory works without it since 1.4 you don't need a ruler anymore.

I hate why i always want to buy ruler because in journey mode terrarians needed it to research

Imo, the mechanical ruler should be a gun-like weapon. Cmon, who of us didn't use them as guns and fought with their friends?

The ruler is one of the very rare items that could be reforged to get accessory modifiers (before 1.4) , and weapon modifiers (1.4 and after) both in its existence...
The fact the ruler is the only shortsword with autoswing directly with it, and because of that has the highest dps of all the shortswords...
Can't wait for someone to lose their sanity trying to beat the game with it...
