Italians originate from Italy, they don/t come from other places the language proves it, except for some in south Italy from Greece ans Albania, and some longobards and Vikings.

Meh seems a bit of a stretch to state that Italian regions have "extremely different cultures and customs". For starters the whole of Italy is and always has been a country of monolithic Catholic culture which is a pretty unique feature when compared to the rest of Europe (think of all the religious wars of 1500s and 1600s, think of Germany who stil today is evenly split between Protestans and Catholics) or even the world.
Differences among dialects pale in comparison to those among minorities in other countries (think of the Basque language in Spain, which is not even a Indo-European language).
Ethnical differences are also smaller than other countries given that Italy hasn't seen (for now) the huge immigration from African and Muslim countries that countries like France, Germany and the UK have seen for decades. Look at their respective national football teams and you'll get the idea.
Beyond the stereotypes, Italy today is actually one of the most homogeneous countries in Western Europe

I'm not sure where he's from since I never met him but I've been to Italy four times and feel more at home there than in America for some reason. My sister had a DNA test done and has some Tuscan in her so I'll get a DNA test to find out where my father is from because I am half Italian unlike my sister.
