As I sift through my vintage camera collection, I’ve been reflecting on my time as a portrait and wedding photographer.
When I started my business at 18, I didn’t start out as Miss MegaBug. Then, I was MegaBug Photography.
I combined my passion for photography with my desire to be self-employed, but shortly thereafter, I lost the passion piece.
(It goes to show that you should always think twice about turning your passion into a business.)
After a full season of weddings, I was burnt out. I’m not a huge wedding fan to begin with, but to photograph a wedding requires next level energy.
I’m proud of the resulting photographs, but while taking them, I noticed that I was gravitating towards the vendor shots.
Because I LOVE small business.
So I pivoted to that. I applied all of the marketing skills I acquired from promoting MegaBug Photography and started Nutmeg Media, which offered small business marketing.
I’ve since rebranded and offer online business and marketing courses as Miss MegaBug to empower you to start and grow your own business.
I don’t miss being a photographer professionally, but I do miss picking up my camera. My passion for photography still hasn’t come back, and that makes me sad.
Occasionally I’ll snap some food or product shots, and I can feel a glimmer of joy and excitement. I have an idea of how I can incorporate this type of photography into my future business endeavors. Stay tuned…
In the meantime, thank you to everyone who has supported me in my near 10 years of business. To my MegaBug Photography clients, my Nutmeg Media clients, and my Miss MegaBug students, thank you for being part of my journey. I hope I helped you on yours. 💕
