Good video, however, you only mention the movement of pistol and pistol rod, but NOT the Crankshaft. For NON offset rod, both pistol and rod at 0 degree, stroke (1) intake.. what make the rod movement to positive angle? clockwise .. this must be the angle of the Crankshaft.. otherwise, the rod could rotate to a negative angle (counter clockwise)
ОтветитьThe connecting rod oscillates
ОтветитьI have known this for years, when building opposite rotating marine engines the pistons are installed backwards on the rods
ОтветитьWhat if also tilt a cylinder a bit?
ОтветитьFord flathead v8 from 1932 to 1953 has off set cylinders. It shows on the blueprints readly availible on the internet.
ОтветитьI was going to make a crack about a cure for insomnia but desisted, although it was very relaxing (sorry). But seriously though, it was an interesting breakdown of the nature of the forces involved. I believe this layout was patented by "Desaxe". I once owned a MotoMorini motorcycle which had this feature on its` V twin engine which was purported to have increased torque. I never felt that this was the case. The design however. did widen the cylinder spacing and allow the carburettors to fit between them more easily, creating compactness. Vibration in this 60 degree design was ok ish but I never felt that it was anything special. It also had "bowl in the piston" combustion chambers. It was quite beautiful, and, of course Italian, but I soon returned to a Ducati. Many Thanks
ОтветитьIt was a very complete and well explained video, but very boring to watch. Here in Brazil, it is customary to dispense with specialist explanations and pay more attention to a generalist who makes a good summary, with practical examples, so that everyone is satisfied. Congratulations on the complete video, very well explained and very boring.
ОтветитьHow about a scotch yoke offset inline 4 cylinder engine? If you reverse the offset in cylinder 1 and 4 then you would have perfect balance.
ОтветитьYou are genius. I learnt a lot from you for last 3yr continuous watching videos and exploring my vision and thinking, so thank you so much and keep doing the stuff
ОтветитьDoes this imply that offset engines can only be inline engines? Because in a V-config, the degrees between firing would be widely different between banks, but not so much on the same bank? ie: uneven firing strokes.
Ответитьare there any modern dirtbikes that feature an offset
ОтветитьCylinder offset also allows to have the combustion pressure peak when the connecting rod is 90° from the crankshaft
Ответитьwhat about the Buick V-6 when it had split rod journals. Was that kind of the same?
ОтветитьWhat would happen if you have a case with a 'parallel' 4 cylinder engine (for example)? Where instead of a 'V' angle between the cylinders they are positioned parallel to each other using the same crank shaft between them. As the cylinders offsets are mirrored, would the odd graph of the secondary forces also be mirrored thus cancelling each other out to some degree? This wouldn't be perfect as the pistons are not in line with each other, but it could improve matters, as the torque is held within the engine block.
ОтветитьThis guy is pastor, preacher, or what? Alleluia!
ОтветитьJust wondering. What are your thoughts on contra-rotating crankshafts with 2 off-set cylinders? Would the crazy line you show at around 21.50 be cancelled out by its reciprocating opposite?
Ответитьbiela batendo na camisa
ОтветитьYou missed one other disadvantage. If you look closely at your graphics of the offset when the crank and conrod are at maximum deflection and on the way back up the cylinder there is an interference fit with the conrod and the bottom of the cylinder. This is another thing that would need engineering to eliminate. Just a thought.
ОтветитьOff set crankrod will put negative impact on piston rings.. cylinder have to bear more friction by rings
ОтветитьAre you talking about Chryslers slant 6 ?
ОтветитьI already did this to my 3 wheel er in 1983 by moving cylinder forward
ОтветитьThe strokes. It's like a miller or atkins engine, but way better
ОтветитьLet me throw another worm in your can. What happens when you also offset the piston pin as well as the crank?
ОтветитьI’m interested in how this affects the rod because it makes sense to me that in a turbo conversion application the offset making the rod straight down in the power stroke would reduce the bending force on the rod. I say this as somebody about to turbo a Toyota 1SZ-FE with weedy little rods! 😂
ОтветитьWhy the stupid sounding voice?
ОтветитьBack in the 60's I had a Fox 15 , model aeroplane engine with that feature, they called a desax cylindér,
ОтветитьAwesome video. Does offset increase rpm?
ОтветитьHow is balancing achieved?
ОтветитьHey guys you can offset the wrist pin on the piston to get a similar effect in regular engines.
ОтветитьSo you clearly don’t know how badly I love learning this stuff
ОтветитьCan the same benefits be acheived with wristpin offset? . . . . .
ОтветитьI keep coming back to this video. I love my G16E-GTS in my GRC.I keep thinking of the similarities with a Yamaha MT-09 engine. Maybe do an updated video on the engine with all the math of the 10mm offset and way its DTC angles plays with the 120degrees between the pulses and the almost Big Bang behaviors these engine have and the gains on traction MotoGP have found those pulses gave.
ОтветитьYour weird asmr type of talking is annoying as fuck just speak like a normal person
ОтветитьI love your videos brother, I've learned so much this past year. Thank you!
Ответитьthe offset engine must vibrate more then a Massage Gun
ОтветитьIt won't work. In the pic the rings are coming out of the bottom of the cylinder.cause for a catastrophe.lmao.haha.
ОтветитьYou do some wonderful and very informative videos and I really enjoy this one on offset cylinders but with the older vintage engines I build, offsetting the cylinders very much is not possible. I would like to see a video on just offset piston pins. Thanks Sam
ОтветитьYamaha Nyx 155 like this
ОтветитьAmazingly detailed explanation of this topic. Thank you for the hard work and time you put into creating this content.
Out of curiosity, would dual crankshafts help get rid of some of the balancing issues with offset pistons?
Then I know how to ignition time this, great! 👍
ОтветитьThis I buy! 🤠
Ответитьthaks u
Ответить🤔
there is a contact between conrod & cylinder block(bore) at about 280°
it'll break the block/conrod, that's not a goodnews.,
OLÁ . Já ouviu falar em consumo de potência pelo próprio motor? em consumo de potência por forças externas? ABRAÇOS... Roberto Udo Krapf
ОтветитьI watch this and I was astounded by how badly what was happening was being described. All of this can easily be relatively easily explained by introducing the concept of angular displacement. It's an actual engineering term. It refers to how much the connecting rod is displaced sideways by the motion of the crankshaft. You are quite correct in most people wouldn't be able to follow what you're saying because miss this entirely obvious point. I went into this video with previous knowledge going in. I figured out most of this stuff when I was 15 and bored in a geography class.
Worst most of this was achieved early on by auto manufacturers buy offsetting the Piston pin slightly. Same effect on Geometry and displacement. It's nothing new.
