Finally found a cheap enough upgrade to do a proper PS4 Pro upgrade to 2TB Samsung 870 for $50. I was going to put it in a enclosure but between the 2 enclosures I was getting around 100mb lower read/write when benchmarking them in a PC. Decided just to go through the entire process to replace the small Samsung 850 250gb internal drive I had in there. Once the 2TB was installed I just moved the games off my 1tb external SSD. Now I have more room then I will ever need as I mostly game on PC. Only care about exclusives and VR games.

1 1/2 years ago, I upgraded the internal to an 8 Tb SSD.

I gotten a 2nd 8 Tb SSD recently to use as a external drive (to many PS + games).

I have a 8 Tb external HDD for making backups.


I don't know if I have a bad internal SSD or not.
Every time I lose power, I have to reinstall the PS4 firmware, format the SSD, and restore the backup.
I ended up getting a UPS because of that.

It takes 34+ hours to backup that data and another 34+ hours to restore the backup.

Internal SSD is the best upgrade that you can do to your PS4 and PS4 Pro. The speed improvement and usability is massive!

Very informative i just converted my pc 3.5 inch hard disk into external drive for my ps4.

So with all this talk about load times. That implies that games can be played directly off of the External storage device without having to be moved to the internal storage, correct?

PS4 slim I am planning and ordering from Amazon SSD for my PS4 to replace the slow stock hard drive it is extremely annoying in Minecraft sometimes legs when I am killing a zombie also I noticed loud clicking noises I looked it up in Google when you hear loud clicking noises send it to professional Data recovery immediately that cost $1000 I looked up an Amazon I found Samsung SSD I decided to purchase it 2TB also I will get external hard drive enclosure so I can use it
To save my gameplay footage sometimes it is reliable for PC which does not run all the time
and That's not deal with heavy usage

I know this video is about 5 years old but I only buy ssd's. The reason is simple, HDD's die quickly, some of them last only few years and you throw your money and data out of the window. I Have a 9 years old SSD which is not even the highest quailty in a daily use and it's still in excellent condition. It won't last forever but an average HDD dies in 9 years time.

What about a PS4 with both internal SSD and External SSD? You can only put a 4tb ssd on the inside. For some of us that isn’t enough and we have to add external storage.

I wonder if you had the game on an external SSD, but the internal drive was also an SSD, would the times be any different? Data streaming from the drives tends to be asynchronous in many games so multiple requests for data can happen at the same time. If some of those requests are for Operating System data and some are for Game data, the system would not need to compete for transfers from a single drive to accommodate multiple data requests.

I've seen this kind of improvement on my PC. I know my PC is not a PS4 and that there are lots of architectural differences between the platforms.

I honestly thought that I would have to replace my internal HHD with a ssd to get faster speeds but after seeing this video, wow!
Just one question, I own a ps4 slim. Do I have the same ability to use a external 3.0 ssd and get those faster speeds?

The comparison is senseless. 5400rpm internal hd versus external usb hd with unknown rpm.

I do have a question? A few months ago I bought a Seagate external hard drive and I hooked it up to my PS4 and I wanted to save my game data and game saves for MK11 and SFV just in case anything should ever happen to my PS4 that I could have everything saved but I saved everything and put the external hard drive away for save keeping. but recently I just unlocked the bunch of new stuff for those games. Do I have to erase the data and resave everything again or could I just add the updated data to the hard drive with the existing data already on there?

Any USB 3.0 hdd will be faster than internal drives on stock ps4/slim, because of SATA II.

I want to get the Max speed possible for online gaming and performance I heard it is better if you use that SS hard drive externally and keep few games on it to make it run better if the playstation itself has a lot of files will that slow it down even if there's only 1 or 2 games on the hard drive should I buy a big 4TB if I'm only in a put one game on it also I would love to use the 4GB to store other stuff but the whole point is to make my gaming faster so I wouldn't want do that is the problem and I have AWD passport my passport I don't know if that's faster than the internal using

That happened to me? My ps4 has a 2tb external hard drive and it dropped on the ground. The console is fine but I had to send the storage for repair but without it I’m lagging horribly. Does the storage give better connection or is it because my ps4 had an impact

Why do I have controller lag with my extended Hardrive on ps4

Well I have a external Hardrive when I’m running Modern Warfare textures load really fast but the textures kinda flicker from looking like play doh and looking normal I have an Easy store WD 2TB external Drive so I have no idea if it would make a real difference before I transfer Modern Warfare to it to be sure it runs smoother and looks a little bit better so i would like a response from anyone if this would make a real Difference for anything

Where did the PS4 pro external SSD results go? :D Plus not all SSDs are created equal. OZ ssd maybe much slower than Samsung EVO SSD?
