A year after achieving 100% completion, I've recently returned to this game like a dog to its vomit, and am trying to complete it again on hard mode. It's frustrating but quite interesting actually... I'm really being forced to change my tactics with the increased difficulty, and learning new tricks all the time. I've completed the Kestrel and Engi ship classes and am now on the Federation class (having sullied my perfect record on the Osprey from Normal difficulty and filled up the high score with unvictorious runs).

But let me tell you, if you've learned to deal with Easy and Normal difficulty, and then switch to hard, the first time you finally make it across the entire galaxy and turn to face the flagship, you are in for a NASTY shock when you realise that

on hard, the missile and laser pods are not isolated.

My favourite crafty tactic remains stationing all my fighters next to the teleporter, mind controlling an enemy, and teleporting them back to my own ship just as the mind control is about to run out, then fighting them on my own turf.

Was it always like that, ending so suddenly?
Did they retroactively edit the video making it shorter to censure it?

If you like the combat but find the roguelike elements annoying I would recommend house of many doors.

With the later creation of Into The Breach by the same company, my new headcanon is that "Pause" is the one piece of time travel tech that wasn't outlawed and destroyed on moral grounds taken out of mothballs to give the Federation whatever edge it can to survive.

if you are coming here for a reccomendation, YES get this game, but download cheat engine for 2x speed so you dont spend 12 seconds waiting for your 2 damage missile to recharge

I honestly found this to be a rather poor rogue like in comparison to the gems that are out there

there was a guy who beat the game with all of the ships in a row so I guess it more about skill and less about luck.

FTL is one of my favorite games, especially when I'm in the mood to sit and just play something that only needs a mouse.

If ya needed morality systems back then CE was a big thing.

After going through a few rounds with FTL it’s almost always better to spare the ships and take their offer. If they have missiles or something you’d get more of them then getting less and maybe enough scrap to make up for the original offer.

Just thinking, where the fuck is the sequel? They released Into The Breach, didn't they? So why haven't they made FTL 2?

I hated FTL. Get dealt a crap hand, then get your balls blown off because you weren't dealt a straight flush. Rinse, repeat. I persisted because people told me how awesome it was, thinking sooner or later I'd have a good run and/or understand what they were on about. Only once did I get lucky enough to reach the final boss and it smeared me immediately. Nope, I'm out, skill isn't a factor, chuck game over shoulder and never touch it again.

I didn't care for it myself, but I could see why people would enjoy it.

In all seriousness, though, the Rebels in FTL are literal Space Confederates. They're not fighting against opression, they're just pissy about the fact that the Federation consists of multiple species other than humans (that's why it's a federation, duh), and believe that humans are superior and all the XENO SCUM needs to be exterminated, so they broke away to create a human-only ethnostate or whatever.

I wish they would make a sequel to this masterpiece. Preferably a more open world one with more stuff to do.
