How to ad background image to a div?

what if my image is very big and I sort of want to shrink it and mask it such that it fits in the container? Thankyou

How do i add the image if it's from the local disc folder?

you give specific height and width for the container (450/250px), and have given 100% to images. Does all images needs to be rectangle shape (landscape)? or vertical photo can be used too (image will be in center showing spaces on left and right side)?
