github vs AI it will hurt dev some degree. I bet they have forgot their goal to improve and I feel someone is pulling the strings to dev AI. so they have stray off the path and I get bet they wanted to collect data. Either money or the leadership of the to do tasks is important for AI but it ruin people work flow and bugs they should be fixing. It all guess for I bet using the AI is to fix their bugs for github that they are targeting. Would that mess up their coding?

This is more a result of Microsoft than it is anything of githubs lingering culture. AI is a walled garden right now and isn't democratized. As cool as it is, I refuse to pay a monthly fee for it.

The really big unmissed feature, that they haven't tapped is issue to git commit suggestion. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Dangerous from a legal perspective to use any AI generated result as these things were trained on GPL code and that might mean that you unknowingly have infected code inside your software.

Copilot is impressive, but a lot of things about the core GitHub experience are lagging behind. I've been contributing to Drupal, which uses GitLab, and I'm impressed enough that I've started moving some of na non Drupal projects to it.

Your video is about GitHub, not Git. Why drop Git? Git and GitHub are two different things. I’ve set up a bare repository our team can use. We don’t push to GitHub.

I never was using git for version control. Pretty stupid to put your private code history in some git. It's ok only for stealing someones else public code for modification and learning. That's it. Now when it's full of virtual assistants and different crap what everyone try to call "ai" fuck it for 100% 😂

I honestly haven't loved working with any of the "AI" platforms. For some stuff like code completion, it works... fine? But not so much better than existing code completion that it matters. And it's wrong with its guesses on things often enough that I have to check it all anyway. I can see what everyone wants this to be, but I think you have to be in love with the hype to actually put up with it to Do Work.

I think your video on graphite was ahead of it's time. When I watched that video I really didn't see the point changing my workflow, just to go back to github when they fix their ui. But with this change, i think graphite is probably here to stay.

The github copilot has been absolutely horrible. It has direct acces to my codebase but gives repetitive and unrelated solutions. Suggests very poor and conveluted code.
The chat is unusable, buggy and outdated info. Even if you paste documentation in the conversation chat it still suggests the same trash code. The comments feature does not work half the time. The only usable feature is the autocomplete. Paying for this is absolutely insane. I have never been this pissed about a coding product or update. Nothing works as intended. Like can you make sure your product is usable before you make me pay 10+ bucks a month?
