so once you add this trailing stop, to your chart does automatically trail the stocks to stop you out or do you move the stop along the trailing st?

Visually on a chart a trailing stop using the ATR looks like a good idea. But there are two reasons that it doesn’t work well. First, prices often spike up on one bar and then back down on the next. This will suck your stop upwards and then as price spikes down again you will be stopped out with a small loss or small profit. Not what you intended. Second, unless you use a high multiple of ATR you will often get stopped out when the broker widens the spread as the market opens and in the first few hours of trading.
Research shows that the Chandelier Exit Stop doesn’t work well. Neither do moving averages. Best is a 20% stop from price or the Parabolic SAR. Unique to the SAR is that the stop accelerates and moves rapidly towards price as momentum stalls, giving a more profitable exit. Only use in trending markets though and NOT in ranges.

Which indicates a more powerful support area, according to you, a horizontal support line, a sloping trendline drawn by connecting the lows or a moving average? I would think the moving average, because a stock tends to stick to its moving average more and therefore has more touches than it does to trend lines and support lines. What do you think?

HI I loved this video thanks a lot! my quesitons is, I understood this ATR traling indicator actualy lets one select the trailing stop loss and the trailing stop follows the ATR. so if the market starts to become volatile the trailing stop loss automatically adjusts itself to the new ATR values, correct?

This is a VITAL tool in my personal opinion. For your viewers: this indicator is also called "Chandelier Exit" on many platforms.

I wish more brokers had this functionality. I don’t see it on Interactive Brokers or on my rider software, DAS Trader. This forces me to use static ATR levels manually for trailing stops, but then again that works well enough for day trading.
