Remote Desktop Connection allows you to take full control of a remote computer (including exclusive access to the Desktop, documents, programs, etc.), while Assistance allows you to give partial control to your own computer (shared desktop, mouse and keyboard) in order to get help from a remote friend. Tools used for remotely accessing computers are logmein, R-HUB remote support servers, GotomyPC, Teamviewer etc. These are easy to use.

So basically, remote desktop is something you use by yourself to take control of your work computer for example and remote assistance involves 2 people, one helping the other?

Who the hell wants to remote into the computer in the next room? And yes, router configuration, port forwarding, and picking the port, is very confusing. The documentation from Microsoft sucks.
I wish one of you geniuses would show us how to remote into a computer that's not in the same room. I guess that s why NOBODY uses
it. It's too complicated.
