Problem with the 12400 is like the 11400 and the 10400 did either, the 12400 doesnt care about PL1 and 2. Set both to 117W, its max tdp, and most Watts I ever got after 20mins Prime 95 was 96W.

Funfact, rev 1.0 of the 12400 (built until may 22') could get oced in bclk mode on some b660 Boards, for example the mortar g, and the z690 could do it too. Up to 30% more points in Cinebench R23 were possible with good cooling.

Der 8auer and PCGH Germany did a Video about that back then.

I saw that there was a compatibility warning with the 12400F and the MSI MAG B660 Tomahawk Wifi DDR4 board, and none wirh the 12400. I'm going with 12400 because I don't want to risk having to tinker with BIOS and anything else as a first time builder, as plug and play as possible is my goal! Also the 12400 is $168 ! Cant beat it. I am also going to be doing course work for my degree, some of it being computer science, digital marketing etc. So I think 12400 non F is the best for me!!!

i am considering a 12400 build over the 5600 as the 12400 has been recommended as it has an upgradeability path for a budget build. i am wondering if it would be a good idea to upgrade the motherboard to one that would compliment the 13600/13700 etc. or should i just upgrade the motherboard and cpu together in the future also considering ddr5 for the motherboard upgrade. thanks for all your content as it is a great resource to guide builders in the right direction.

I have an rtx 3070 oc with i5 12400 and I get really low FPS in games like Fortnite or valorant and in valorant my CPU and GPU is on 20 to 30 percent and in Fortnite I get 40 to 60 percent CPU and 10 to 20 percent GPU idk what to do I have a 144hz monitor and FPS is not capped and ram 16 GB 3200 I get good FPS in other games but these are like this I need help

Hey, Jason. I have a question. Is the MSI MAG B660M Mortar DDR4 still a good choice for an i5 12400F build? PCpartpicker says it's incompatible when compared to some other boards which are much more expensive. The MSI B660M Mortar is currently on sale for only $128, that's why I'm wondering.
