Hi! Can you record also directly into the H4N's SD card while using it as an audio interface?

Do you need to insert sd card to use as audio interface?

An Audio Interface is basically an external sound card for your computer. On a very basic functionality, you hook your computer speakers/ headphones to listen to audio/music from your computer. On advanced functionality you can input and record microphone and instruments. Also most audio interfaces provide option for a powered 48v inputs. Some Audio Interface also have MIDI In and Out ports.

Hi!
I bought recently an H4n Pro...and I have a question :)
I am a beginner bass guitar player and I would like to record as a "line in" signal from a smartphone, or laptop or an audio player throught the player's 3.5mm jack connector (to record a track from an audio player. For ex. a backing track, without the bass) ...and in the same time I want to record the voice of my bass's speaker with the recorder's external microphone (or with an attached microphone to the H4n). How can I do that? Which in/outputs have I to use, and what type of cables? :)
Thank you so much!!

Thank you so much. I loved how simple and also how clearly you showed the H4n. This is exactly what I needed to know. I've been struggling to connect the Presonus Studio 68c to my Windows 7 computer and I wondered if I could just use my H4n as an interface instead. According to your video I can! I can't wait to try it and if it works, I'll take back the expensive Presonus.

so how would you go about using the external inputs to create one track for each?
your example just seemed to show a single stereo channel as the only input channel at the ableton end?

This was very clear and helpful. Thank you for being detailed and patient in your video. It helps a lot. For me I was seeing if I could use the H4N as an AI with JamKazam rather than using a MOTU M2. Answer : no not really. While it operates and while its latency could be tolerated it is about 10x more in latency than my MOTU M2 AI. Wow! In JamKazam that is worlds apart. So .... FYI.

Just a heads up. If everything's perfect besides and you can't get levels in Logic: Check your Mac's privacy settings (particularly when using Mojave or above) and make sure the box is checked to allow Logic to access microphones. I was tearing my hair out for a while before discovering this as there's no warning in Logic.

I have a problem that's driving me mad. I've looked at all settings and can't find a way to correct this. I'm plugging in a Behringer ultravoice xm8500 into the Mic1 port of my Zoom H4N and then into my USB port of my MacBook Pro. I get a voice distortion (a slight helium-y voice) even though all effects are off. Please help!

Hello! Great video!
I can't find a place to change the input modes when the H4N is plugged in the computer to 4ch.

Does it mean that I just can't use the stereo onboard mics and my guitar in input 1 recording at the same time? Thanks!

Hi thank you, it was veru useful!!

I have a question: i have 2 a wireless lav kit that has 2 recievers and 1 transmitter, that has a stereo xlr output.
So i connect it to the h4n, on input 1, and i get signal only on the left channel.

Can i have each lavalier on a different track?

I mean, the output of the transmitter is stereo, but i don’t know hw to configure it on the zoom...

Thank you!!

Cannot record audio on the Zoom SD card while the Zoom acts as a USB interface to the computer. This product fail my requirement to have a backup recording recorded on the Zoom internsl SD card when the USB interface or computer software hangs.

Thank you for your video. I have a question about sound quality. I used H4N to record my voice in 2 ways. First I recorded using USB and did a voice over a video clip on my MAC so the iMovie directly got the sound H4N > USB> MAC . Next I recorded the same sound ( In both cases I just said Hello Hello a few times) but this time I recorded it on the SD card inside H4N. Then I added the sound to the Video clip. I see a marked difference in the playback. The sound recorded using USB has a nasal tone ( overall higher pitch ) whereas the sound recorded on SD and imported (H4N > SD > import to MAC) was more natural. I am not able to understand why there should be any difference.. _Thanks- Jagabandhu
