Why not an old fashioned drain plug?

The foam in the new part is to prevent a build up of metal contamination around the servos. I have changed the fluid twice on my 2015. Wonder how many times your customer did?
I find your videos to be informative, good job!

Yeah, I am not a fan of the mouse fur belly pans. First experience recently with those on my 2018 Fusion. I also noticed they get wet and cause some corrosion on the steel where they attach. Must be really bad in the rust belt with salt. Just seems like a bad idea.

Kenny, you need to make some studs to put in the transmission so you can guide the valve body straight up onto the transmission. It can save you a lot of grief if you knock a seal or gasket ouf of place while trying to get the valve body into place. I have an assortment of studs to aid in installing different components, and they have made a lot of jobs much easier.

Pro tip--The Lead frames are very sensitive to heat/dirty fluid, anyone with an f150 (really any trans) just pump out 3/4 qts and pump in new fluid once a year, takes 30min cost $40.00. No need to drop the pan, it will save you this headache

So what actually is it that goes wrong with the leadframes? Plastic getting brittle or deforming and letting a contact move away from the part that it connects to? Do they make the replacement parts with a different material that doesn't do the same thing, or are we just supposed to replace leadframes when they fail? Is it better for some makes than others?

And, yeah, that shield just absorbing an oil leak is dumb. Even just adding some well-placed holes so the oil can seep out of the absorbent material like it did on your floor would be something.

Better with those lifts, remember back in the good old days working in inspection pits that weren’t deep enough and you had to “fold” yourself to fit, and we wonder why our backs are ruined. 😳

Bet the reason they are not a recall is because they hope they roll out of 10 years, so they do not have to do it as a non safety warranty recall.

Mr. Wrenching, we do not need to see every thing you do every moment of every job. Show us all you think we need to see if you feel it’s absolutely necessary. Some of us are viewers not mechanics.

You overfilled the trans. You're supposed to set the fluid level when its at operating temperature. Its about 210 degrees on that vehicle, and you go by the temp reading on your scan tool. The fluid expands quit a bit, and just letting it idle on the lift won't get it anywhere near 210. You can either take it on a good test drive or do a very light brake stand. Also, the marks on the dipstick are not low and high fill points. If you look carefully, you'll see that the lines are coded. It will tell you in the workshop manual what the correct fill point is for that vehicle.

On the 6 speed transmission, you can get away with not having it perfect. This one will probably be OK. On the newer 10 speeds, however, it has to be perfect, or close to it. If not, you'll have drive ability issues. The factory time just to set the fluid level pays 1.7. If you know anything about Fords book times, they would rather under pay than over pay. Just to put that number into perspective, some of our easier dashboards only pay 2.7 to remove and install.

In the video you mentioned non-volital memory. That's data that should stay in the module even when the power is off. When you program something like a TCM or PCM, that data is non-volital. Otherwise, you would have to program all of your modules every time you start the car. So that code was telling you one of the modules is not retaining data like it is supposed to.

Hi Kenny. On the subject of torqueing things down......i'm a "DIY mechanic" and a couple of years ago i bought some torque wrenches and realized (which i already suspected) that i overtightened almost every bolt so now i always use them.....at least where it matters. Thank you for another entertaining video.👍🇸🇪

Traditional dipsticks and a transmission drain plug are no longer viable for most manufacturers.

The reason they don’t put a dipstick in vehicles is they don’t want people just putting trans fluid in with out knowing the proper procedure the same as not putting a drain in the transmission pan because they thought people would not change the filter in old vehicles

Great Video Kenny and I was wondering what brand was the torque wrench and torx sockets that you used for this? Great tip for valve bodies and would add to NEVER buy cheap torque wrenches as I learned the hard way. C4 transmission bands supposed to be torqued to 120 In-lbs and I bought a bargain torque wrench and when I went to torque down the adjustment bolt I heard a hollow
"Snap" from inside the transmission (Band Broke) and cost me plenty to have transmission rebuilt. Thanks so much and keep on wrenching!!!
