The sad actual ending creates a depression and one doesn't like to see the movie again despite being made so well.

I always felt depressed at the end seeing him being crucified. They should have left the ending showing Jean Simmons happily playnig with her child who like the end of film Samson and Delila have shown a little boy (his son) asking his mother why did Spartacus have to die? And the mother replies so that the slaves could be free.

This scene didn't make me cry but water was building up in my eyes, seeing how Varinia and Spartacus meet each other for the last time to say their final goodbyes and what Varinia said on how she was going to tell their son about Spartacus and his determination to free many slavers from the Roman Empire.

Hard to believe Alex North never won an oscar for his music. He also did Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Spartacus was never found after the war. Its a mystery if he died or lived on! When Crassus returned to the Senate, the entire credit was taken by Pompeii as he did not have any proof of Spartacus' death.
