Intel Coffee Lake: Core i5 8400/ i5 8600K Review: Faster Than Last-Gen i7?

my 8700k in 2022 runs everything that throws it up.
and this without any oc, at 4.3ghz.
as for me excellent cpu, even now.

should I upgrade from i5 8400(2x8gb 2133mhz memory) to i7 8700(2x8gb 2666mhz) or skip to new platform 10th/11th gen i5(6c/12t) cpu? My mobo don't support more than 2666mhz memory speed.

the real competitor now for the 9700k is the 9900 non k... they are about $40 off.

Picked up a 8700K today for $279.99 at Micro Center.

I have an i5 8400, and use it in a DAW. It can sometimes be inadequate, and imo struggles a bit to handle the load. And my uses are much less than other composers. I regret not buying an i7 8700 for not too much more money.

Intel 2nd generation will be considered as the best in the history. After 3rd gen, it was pointless and no such difference that can give a solid reason for the upgrade until might be 8th gen. I'm still using my i5 3570k paired with GTX 1060 6gb and easily run games on 1080p without bottleneck at acceptable fps

I bought a Asus Tuf b360-pro gaming wifi. limited myself to ddr4 at 2666 speeds, anything faster then that it slows the memory down!

you should used a decent GPU . Reality check not all people will buy a i5 8400 with Titan X or GTX 1080/ti . mostly they will buy a GTX 1050 ti 1060 and GTX 1070 for this processor.

How much does RAM speed impact framerate? Is there a difference between 2133 and 3000?

All setup should use 2666 RAM

my i5 8600k aircooled run in msi z370 gaming plus mobo is running at 4.4 Ghz turbo boost with no problem

I m still with 5820K 4.5ghz ddram 4 3200 quad channel, waiting for next hedt x399 from Intel, I wont go x299 because Vrm thermal issue, even rampage VI still got issue and it cost here 800usd, a big joke for x299.

Does the 8400 work with B360, H310 and H370 chipsets? Those are much cheaper boards than the z370.

Just built an 8700K based gaming and Productivity build and it's an absolute BEAAAAAAAAAST! Far faster than i had originally imagined...

I have i5 8600k oc at 4.8ghz on firestrike bench I was at 98% better then most people with a gtx 1070 8bg amp extreme and 16gb ram

I had a z170 with i5 6500 plugged in was thinking of getting 7700k. guess what a i5 8400 and z370 board were cheaper than the i7 7700k.
