A clever workaround, but it's not really fixing the problem. This problem will appear when different versions of remote desktop are running. If you can't update the target pc, do the following: open the target computer/server and go into System Properties > Remote > Change the option to 'Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)'. This should work until you can get the target computer or server updated.

I believe this is not so much a fix but a workaround. The fix is getting both client and remote computers updated with all the security rollups and patches. Until that is done the connection is vunerable
