I have bought Western Mountaineering Ultralite, and the quality is top notch, BUT: I wonder about the rough stitching inside the bag, which clearly irritates if you put bare arms and legs in the bag. I really hope that this irritation diminishes significantly as the bag is used – Unpacking/unpacking, washing etc.?

kisluxbag included, I firmly assert that unless one possesses the requisite skills, differentiating variations in the sack's appearance or metallic elements is an unachievable task.

My wife and I both use Feathered Friends 10f bags (and have for 4 years now without issue). Just ordered their kids bag for my son. I have 0 complaints with them, and they should be on this list.

Thanks for a well reasoned review. My 8 year old WM Megalite (overstuffed by WM to 20 F.0 ) is my 3 season bag that WILL handle 0 F. if I wear a base layer, down pants and down sweater and a balaclava. Being the wider Megalite I'm not constricted when wearing the down garments. GO WESTERN MOUNTAINEERING!

I've been sleeping in mummy bags since 1965,. my first was a M-1949 Army mtn bag by Eddie Bauer, and many others since then. I have had the WM Versalite for about 6 yrs here in the Wind River Mtns of Wyoming and YellowstoneNP. Absolutely worth ever penny.
Another bag I just bought for a spare is the Cumulus Panyam 600 from Poland at $360 shipped. Amazing quality all the way round and half the price of a new Versalite. It's about 10' warmer than my Versalite and nearly every bit as nice. Worth way more than any of those Asian made bags.

Sigh, calls this hiking category and chooses a mountaineering bag that you would NEVER take hiking as you have to be able to use it as a quilt for HOT days when EVERYONE goes backpacking and is in their beeping bad naked essentially as it is too damned hot... which means a full zip toe closing quilt such as the Flutter from Feathered Friends or EN E or... ... Can't make this shit up...

I've bought a customized Cumulus Alaska 1300 bag 10 years ago (different inner fabric and additional top fill). The quality and the freedom to customize the bag to your liking / needs have no competition... and all this for a very reasonable price. Have other, lighter sleeping bags as well as a zenbivy double... there is not a singel one for every situation - it depends when where and with whom I'm going on a trip.

The WM 20 UL was my go-to bag for years. I now use a Zpacks 20 quilt, and I am very happy it. When the seasons change, and it gets colder its back to my WM bag. My WM bags are all about ten years old and in perfect condition. Never any issues with the zippers and I have never been cold, not even a little bit. Being made in the USA is important to me. Remember the saying, cry once.

I have three WM bags, the -7C Ultralite, the -12C Versalite and the -32C Puma. They're incredible bags. My Ultralite has over 500 nights of use, and it is like new. Why the -12C and -7C bags? "Aren't they nearly the same?" No, the -12C Versalite is a severely underrated bag, and I have used it to close to -20C.

Honestly, I can’t remember using a bag tapered at the feet in years. Total rip off. Totally uncomfortable. They don’t belong on anyones list. If you use a bag that’s tapered like that you either don’t use it much or you’re basically a zombie passing as human. Not comfortable at all. It’s why so many people use quilts.

Western Mountaineering 20* TerraLite! Extra wide semi-rectangular mummy bag that doubles as a quilt, but under 2lbs and stuffs into a 7-8 litter stuff sack. USA made and top quality, 850 plus down is usually over 900 actual fill power. Western Mountaineering is one of the best IF not the best sleeping bag manufacturer in the world..

All you need to know is Western Mountaineering. Warmest for weight ratio, zipper guards don't get stuck, different cut bags for bigger or smaller people. Eg. I have a 25 year old, 20 degree Westerm Mtn bag that is warmer that a brand new 20 degree bag from Marmot. Returned the Marmot bag and bought my second WM bag.

A few complaints on the zippers in this video. Even the best sleeping bag zippers get stuck at times. The Zen Bivy is a good zipperless alternative. Another good alternative is an extra wide (60"+) quilt with side elastics (eliminates drafts), such as those sold by UGQ. Better yet, use that quilt inside a hammock with an underquilt - My favorite set-up for all seasons, as long as I am backpacking where there are trees

I dint think its the same to vompare a cumulus that weights 700 grams with a wetern mountanerring that weights ñiterally 2x. I understand they are worth the same amount of money but they are serving two different purposes.

I started putting together my backpacking gear in spring and really went crazy with the research so now I am still not done in late summer. I am deciding what bag to get and I got an idea that I'd love to get your opinion on. During the winter we have lots of layers to keep us warm during the day; usually somewhere between 3 and 6; and then when we go to bed we take them off to get into our super warm, heavy sleeping bag. Why not just wear your warm day clothing to bed and take like a 30 degree bag in the winter? I know they could be sweaty but if you manage your layers properly they shouldn't be that wet right? Plus you could use materials that are warm when wet like wool and some synthetics.

If there was a synthetic sleeping bag with the same possibility to compress, insulation and weight comparing to my Spark 3 I’d buy it. Honestly, even more than it’s flimsy materials and cling-foil like haptic on your skin it’s the smell of goose down that I like to get rid off. Couldn’t find a decent alternative yet.

Using the Spark 3 and 0 . But totally agree with your impression. However, I’m gonna stick 😅 to them for for its advantages comparing to my other gear . But that’s just me because I’m stubborn and can’t afford to buy an additional Zen bivy system ( in Germany ). Wouldn’t sell the Sparks to be able to buy anything else either as I’m using them very often for its ultra light weight
