I thought they threatened to shoot his men if he dropped the plank.

I have come to consider they may have used this as their way to insult American Christianity due to the beating and forcing him to hold the plank in a highly exhausted state.

I also think I saw a picture of a cross used at a POW camp where a prisoner would put his head through the center and his hands through holes in the sides and he would be beheaded.

Japanese killed and hated Christians and even now strongly reject it, but the only difference between China and Japan is that in Japan you won't no longer be killed over it whereas China executes anyone they fear might be practicing or influencing others.

but I think Japan and China made more than enough of their own methods of execution to humiliate and intimidate Christians.

While it is noble for World War II veterans to tell their story, we need to stop making movies about it. They only foster animosity toward those who had been the enemy but today are our friends. Yes, their POW camps were horrible, and on some level those perpetrators of cruelty will atone. But let us not forget we dropped two atomic bombs on innocent people, many of them children, none of whom were POWs. But the war ended in 1945, 78 years ago. Let us be friends with the Japanese; let us appreciate their culture along with the many things of value they have to offer. Let us extend and receive love and forgiveness, and hope for future collaborations.
