Cold steel is trash

This was a lemon. I own all of Cold Steel's budget European medieval swords and they'll take a beating. When I get a new sword, I whack it against a heater shield I made out of 3 layers of plywood and then covered with canvas and painted with my family crest (My family were Swiss Knights and Lords at one point) just because why not. My procedure is to smack it on the flat side of the blade about 10 times, then blade edge on the shield face about 30 times. Every one of those swords survived easily.
Edit: They used to make this sword with an actual hand and a half grip but they changed that for some reason. I own the shorter version. I actually hunted down the short grip version as new-old stock because I already had the longswords

As far as I'm concerned, you just got a defective piece. I own this sword myself and it is one of my favourites. It has good balance, sharpness and a well-fitting scabbard. The only drawback is that it is susceptible to corrosion, but that's the nature of steel. I was convinced to buy the official cold steel video in which they test it hard. More than once he hit there flat wooden surfaces, a block of ice, cuts ropes and meat without any problems and even the guy did 3 pull-ups with it on the bar and after that the sword was whole and straight. I hope you get your money back.

Grind the tip and make it a short sword.

Cold steel has really gone down the toilet. I have one of their swords before they got bought out and you could cut a tree down and it wouldn't break.
