Quick question...If I just sign up with a Pub admin such as Song Trust, I wouldn't need to register with BMI/ASCAP as a publishing company correct? I can just sign a song writer & then register the songs with Song Trust....also, (if you know)...Does song trust automatically register the songs with your PROs?

I set up my publishing company as a sole proprietorship with BMI before filing with the secretary of state. Is that an issue?

Now I just started my LLC and I want all royalties (BOTH writer and publisher) to be coming to my LLC instead of me, just because I heard it's better for tax purposes and because I want to run everything thru the business. Can that be done and What is your opinion on that?

So here's something that's happening to me right now. And i'm not exactly sure what to think about it or what I can do about it if anything. I have a new computer and I went to facebook to start My first Business account. My computer is not linked to any of my accounts Just my new one that I made for my business. And somehow Facebook knows who I am and even though I haven't been in Facebook jail in over 6 months. I get this notice the moment I try to start a business page. It says. You can't create new pages at this time. We temporarily stop people from creating new pages when pages they manage violate our policies! Wtf? How do they even know who the hell I am?? Literally nothing is affiliated. On top of that is that not violation of my human rights and my rights as it american citizen? That's telling me to shut up and that I don't have The freedom Of commerce Or voicing my opinion. But others can This is b***** because there goes like a lot of my business. Registering and protecting copyright in the USA seems to have become a bear, and both of the main publishing companies have bad reputations. I'm considering going to the Canadian company or even the Swiss one, but I have EU citizenship, so that's a plus. America has policies about copyright and being forced to accept covers of your songs that Europe doesn't engage in. Case in point, ABBA can literally refuse to have anyone cover their songs, while American bands have no control. Paul Simon was forced to allow Frank Sinatra to do his songs. Of course, this is an honor, but the US system makes it impossible for a songwriter to refuse to allow someone to cover their song. I know this is the problem of a rich person, but I've also heard bad things about the US PROs, that their customer service is lousy.

I think it's $75 to join BMI, now. I joined when it was free so I'm not sure.

California example is misleading. If you're "doing business" in CA but set up LLC in another state where it's cheaper, you still have to pay the CA franchise tax, which is $800/annual. You don't get around the franchise tax by setting up LLC in another state where it's cheaper if you're doing business in CA.
