Biggest tip I have is learn it with a brand new fighting game you’re not familiar with. If you have to learn how to play the game alongside learning the controller it will feel more natural and be easier to memorize. I did it this way and stuck with it until playing any fighting game felt unnatural if I wasn’t using leverless.

I got a leverless controller and SF6 for Christmas and was dreading how hard it would be. Day 1 I couldn't stop banging my thumbs on the up button. Week 3 I hit Diamond with Blanka. However I still struggle with QCB P1 side or QCF P2 side because of exactly what you said regarding ring finger strength. Playing daily I saw small improvements constantly

A few things I think need to be added for newcomers.

1) Don't be afraid to shift your fingers around. Personally, no matter how hard I try, doing 2x QCF from player 2 side using my middle and ring fingers will never be as fast as if I slide my fingers over and use my index and middle fingers. Of course there are advantages and drawbacks to any finger shifting, so adjust accordingly for you and your game.

2) If you don't have a leverless controller yet, I highly consider one that has more buttons than the standard 4 directional + 8 face/attack ones. For example, some have an additional bottom button, to the left of the Up button. That can be assigned as a second Down button (or anything). But as a second down button, it would also help with my earlier example of the QCF from the player 2 side. The point is you'll have more configuration options.

I just got myself a leverless controller because I tried doing an EWGF in TKN 8 with my keyboard. The feeling I got when I executed the move I was thinking about was amazing! It is the same feeling I had when I was a kid learning how to play on an arcade machine. Thank you for the tips. I don’t expect to make progress fast or keep my current rank. I am just looking forward to all of the eureka moments on learning the motions and executions.

Paper boxes are the best cases for leverless as they reduce hand pain! Thats why I dont use plastic/wood cases anymore. Cheap and healthy, that's my main tip)

This is good advice for beginners. I’ve been a leverless user since 2018 and one of the biggest pieces of advice I can give is just get used to moving. Walking, dashing, jumping etc. Get used to using your hands for that.

Another hurdle people run into is a lot of times they don’t know how to use the jump button in the sense of which hand it should be designated to. This does boil to personal preference but the way I do it that may be useful is if it something specifically movement oriented (jumping for example) then my left thumb will hit it but if it’s for tech (say tiger knee inputs or certain Tekken moves) then my right thumb will usually hit the button.

It took me a few weeks to be comfortable just doing things and about a year for real proficiency. There are a lot of benefits but understand like anything else it does have a learning curve

I played on keyboard with a hitbox layout for a bit before I bought a leverless... Between that and 20 years of playing guitar, the extra finger dexterity for sure is helping me learn faster. I recommend practicing with a keyboard first if you can with space as up, just to drill that into your head as soon as possible lol.

I'm new to hitbox (2 days so far) and I was able to play it very well from the beginning. My friends keep on underestimating my 20 years playing both guitar and drums. I pretty much play Tekken on that thing as if I am playing a percussive instrument and of course I have great dexterity and stamina on my fingers. Playing an instrument will develop coordination, stamina, speed, flexibility and strength. You nailed that comment, and congrats about lifting that insane amount of weight!

I just picked up Street fighter 6 (yeah I know I'm late to the party)
I have no problem taking time to learn but things like Blanca's ball I don't know how to do it and I can't find anyone online to show me on a leverless.

If you read this can you explain it to me? Thank you

I've been playing on stick for almost 11 years and just moved to leverless like a month or two ago. I tried doing Steve Fox's duck cancel and got it first try but there are definitely other things about leverless that are difficult such as the ring finger fatigue that you mentioned. I actually went to my first tournament last week and was using leverless and did a lot better than I thought I would. I'm focusing on tekken 8 for now but will move on to SF6 once Akuma has been released. Should also learn those 360 inputs cos I'm a Zangief main.

P.S. Love your content, your KBD guide really helped me improve my gameplay, I never really focused on doing KBD back when I played on stick.

The levelers is the best fight game controller, with the tradeoff of the very high learning curve and especially the unintuitive nature of the left hand.

I guess I'm technically on leverless now 'cause I just started learning how to play SF6 with a keyboard lol

a lot of what you said also applies to my situation and I do find it very validating to know that the whole "doing back QCF's and playing on P2 side is literally impossible" situation isn't just something I'm experiencing. I've only been on keyboard a couple of days (mostly of necessity), but I really enjoy how snappy and responsive inputs feel. There's obviously a learning curve with getting used to where buttons are, but some things feel like second nature already and I can't wait to keep getting better.

I think one way another way to learn leverless and/or making it more fun to play is to use them in non-fighting games as well!

In theory, any game that doesn't rely on the right stick of a controller can work.

Being that I'm also a Tetris player outside of fighting games, I've been using my new Haute42 T13 with various Tetris games, such as Tetris 99, PPT2, Tetris Effect, and Tetrio. I'm ever so slightly faster now compared to when I was playing Tetris on an arcade stick, but with more time and practice, I'll be even faster hehe.

I also heard games such as Hollow Knight, Hades, and Cuphead are also fun on leverless as well.

Just started using Haute42 R16. Coming from xbox pad, I struggle to get used to how relatively large and far apart the buttons are. I don't know what my resting position for my fingers should be. Sometimes I press the wrong button because my finger happened to be resting on another button.

Right now I'm juggling Strive and SF6 both games I have people that play but more of SF6.
