Some time the prosecutor attorney argument are based in our present standard. Like in the Genghis Khan video. "He was a bloodthirsty ruler that killed his enemies without mercy" That's how things were there!!

He was still very much a Republican dictator rather than a monarch. North Korea has a leadership dynasty, but it's certainly not one would call a monarchy.

Meh Augustus was the best for the time he was in, to make moral judgements 2000 years later is folly

This was a horrible prosecution of Augustus. Ted Ed is so pathetically liberal centrist its not even funny. Imagine talking about this guy wanting to avenge Caesar when he actually turned around and murdered his only son (adoptive brother basically) so that his power could be consolidated. I'll leave it at that, you take your guess at how many omissions were made by this sham trial🙄

The late Republic was dying, the Ceasar, Popmepi and Crasus, the Triumvirate saw to save it, but alas it was in vain, the cancer of traitors ruined it all,
It was Octavian who saved ROME, had he not done so, the fall would have happened thousands of years early,

Central argument wanders around too much, rattling off bullet point factoids without context. It would be a better use of the 4 minutes to explain what the actual roles of the senate, consuls, tribunes and governors were; and then describing the departure from that under Augustus, than what was accomplished here.

Why didnt the lawyer talk about how Augustus used to crash weddings and would marry many and i mean MANY women just to divorce them after a couple of days because he was bored of them. Oh yeah and he slept with many women.

Here roman republic is depicted almost like an ideal democracy, while it was just an oligarchy/aristocracy, furthermor the one who really destroyed roman republic was Julius Caesar. But he was indeed an autocratic brutal (roman republic was quite brutal too)leader as was julius and everyone around and before him.

The people would only have Augustus rulling since the senate killed Gaius Caesar. The people love Caesar today as much as they did back then and were hurt when the senate backstabbed him.

I've lived under a dictator. No matter how benevolent his rule might have been to some people, the country still felt like a prison. In the end, when his regime was overthrown, he left a nation with weak institutions and rampant corruption. Perhaps Augustus was a better ruler than the dictator I had lived under, but dictatorships of any kind rarely allow people to be free.
