ОтветитьWhen I was 15, my grandfather took me to New York. While he went for an ice cream in Central Park, an old homeless hippy came up to me and sat next to me, telling me about a concert of 'the Grateful Dead' in the park. This was the first time I had heard the brand name, and the homeless man claimed that at one point in the concert, they announced that each ticket was dipped into LSD.
At that time, the Grateful Dead was not very popular in Europe, unlike many other psychedelic bands. So, when I went home to Belgium with that story, I did not immediately start listening to their music. However, 20 years later, that man's story suddenly woke me up, and for the past few months, I have been addicted to their music.
What sets the Grateful Dead apart from most other psychedelic bands is their everlasting friendly tone, we can feel a humbleness towards life and death, and that's pretty redeeming. It is like a time travel to the origins of the hippie movement, a movement that inspired millions of people, even today. The hippie became an archetype on its own, it will stay there until the dead of humanity, together with the 'Grateful Dead'.
10/2023 still blissfully aware of this tune, thanks Jerry, good looking out man!

ОтветитьI closed the Psychedelic Shop on Market Street up a couple hours early that evening (around 6 pm) and then hopped on MUNI with my buddy Scott. When we walked in to the auditorium I was surprised to see the movie Animal House playing on a screen. I still have the jersey I bought: EVERYONE HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME🥳
