2012 Surly LHT, Brooks Saddle, Blackburn rear rack, front platform rack.
If I want to travel light and freeze at night, I'll just strap the necessities directly to the racks, and throw a couple feather-light, elastic-banded backpack rain covers over the whole kit.
But usually I like my accoutrements - so it's full size panniers in the back, and a waterproof stuff-sack on the front platform, which has my premium sleep system in it. Just under nine pounds.
Ya.. I like to watch a movie at night... I'm a high tech redneck on two wheels.
I'm not doing single track out in Moab, but the fire-roads, and extensive rail trails out here in BC are no problem at all.
Epic, thanks, this is really helpful.
ОтветитьThis is the same story for myself, after 5years of staying home, playing video games and binging netflix. So I bought a bike, mainly because petrol was getting expensive and i wanted cheaper way to get around, i used my bike to get to work, and mind you my job starts at 1am and 10km round trip, it felt so great riding to work in the middle of the night on a country road, all to myself mostly. Ive seen so many shooting stars, watching the stars and planets move over my head every night the past 2 years Ive riden to work, the worst part is riding home in the 10am sun, so its become a race to get home fast.
ОтветитьOne bike brand to remember from this video. Surly.
ОтветитьVery professional U-tube with lots of good info´s. Thanks.
ОтветитьWow, what a well researched video!
ОтветитьIm 100kg and plan to carry 20. Very heavy
Ответить.
ОтветитьIf I were to go touring on a bicycle, the last thing I'd want to do is spend all the time hunched over. Why are these bikes designed like racers. Something like the Raleigh Pioneer or Lapierre Trekking would be far more suitable, in terms of riding position.
ОтветитьIts funny. I rode in 1984/5 for 6 mos in Europe by myself and used a racing bike i got off a teenager. I fully loaded it up with 4 panniers and a handlebar bag. Lots of steep mtn roads on Crete and France. No issues. Came back and bought an actual touring bike. Hated how it felt. 😂
Ответитьhi you should maybe lead this video by highlighting what you consider is the difference between a bikepacking adventure vs a touring adventure (cause they both sound like the same thing to me).. without that definition then this video seemed confusing..
ОтветитьIs 27.5 good for 6 ft tall
ОтветитьAfter working with bikes i grew to hate rear kickstands.
They inevitably bend or destroy rear triangle.
Center stand is better, and a double-swing-out is the best (as opposed to stiff two-legs)
But even better is a stand from tent poles that supports your bike by the seat tube.
this is a great option to show that you are bisexual
ОтветитьI absolutely love your videos! They are well organized by category, and slam full of information, and you don’t waste one minute of my time. Best channel for information on the internet, hands down!
ОтветитьHey guys, I’m cycling across Australia next year and I am just wondering what is the best type of bike to choose for going from Byron to Perth
ОтветитьI disagree with many of your distinctions. I feel the two categories are so blended these days that they are hardly any differences. The type of riding, distance, terrain, location etc should define the bike/components used.
ОтветитьThe only difference is companies trying to differentiate the two to make more money....just get on your bike, add the gear to it and ride it....
ОтветитьNumber of times "Bikepacking Bikes" was said in this video...67
ОтветитьWhat is Marin Four Corners? Touring or bikepacking bike?
ОтветитьSay "bike packing bike" again 😅
ОтветитьComprehensive overview that's only 10mins...come on bro, feel free to drop a longer video😊
Ответитьyour video helped me to no longer being sure what the difference between bikepacking and touring is...
ОтветитьI have a 2013 Fargo love it but not the best for heavy loads not really a good pannier bike I would like to get erc or long hall trucker
ОтветитьX
ОтветитьVideo is quit se informative, but I would no consider bikepacking bike actual category. If you are going touring in places like Europe or US, you can grab almost any bike that has space for wider tires, gears for various incline and you can attach rear rack to. Ofc, you might not even need rack attachements if you are on very minimal gear and plan to stay at hotels or something.
For most touring and bikepacking as long as you can get panniers, frame, top tube bag and handlebar bag, it's more than enough.
Obviously, if you know you are going to bike in less developed places, very harsh terrain often with heavy loads, you ahould definitely pick touring bike
I'm use my M4C for 2 setup touring and bikepac king
Ответитьwhat is the rear rack shown on the bike at the 20 second mark?
Ответитьpenis comment
ОтветитьNo mudguard?
ОтветитьI rode south and crossed the Panama Canal. When I crossed the border into panama from Costa Rica, I met a few guys that were biking to Panama City. This was a great example of the difference of the ride a bike has vs a motorcycle. As I headed south and went from the pacific to the Caribbean side of the country many times… the guys on bikes were headed south on the main highway, they rarely deviated from the highway as they just didnt have it in them to pursue additional miles and they missed out on the best parts of the country. I did 26 k miles on my tour south of the us boarder eventually crossing the Panama Canal and the guys on bikes did less than 3k. Some times bikes work, but I think adventure and exploring on a moto will get you to more places. Not that more is always better, of course… but
ОтветитьTrue. Any bike will do: every summer I do a two week bikepacking trip with my "normal" Bianchi endurance road bike through France and Spain starting from Switzerland. Roads are usually paved with the occasional light gravel - in the last years I learned the hard way what spares I have to take along....😜
ОтветитьDo yourself a favour and buy a Ti mountain or gravel frame. no maintenance and easily modifiable. 1x makes zero sense.
ОтветитьI want to travel from Berlin to Nantes in France in 2-3weeks, should I go with a touring or bikepacking bike ?
Ответитьdude yure lame!!!
ОтветитьLoved the video, but please get a pop-filter for your mic. Your ‘B’s and ‘P’s kept distorting.
ОтветитьSeeing that Ferrari on a mud road hurt me mentally.
ОтветитьGreat content!
Ответитьshall we not just say its all about the bag set-up imo the term bikepacking is a lighter higher load and touring is a heavier bigger lower load that you wouldn't want to go off road not to say you couldnt.
honestly these days ppl get caught up on semantics guys just do what suits you.
you are such a resource!
ОтветитьAnother great video! Thank you :)
ОтветитьIt's not different quit wasting people's time it's the same thing at the end of the day
ОтветитьIt’s a bit trial and error. But basically, you can’t go catastrophically wrong. 😎
ОтветитьNice videos mate. I know that we can use any bike for cycling on long terms, i did it with old mtb bike . But now i have Ghost Square Cross Essential so im wondering is it better to go with bikepackin at this bike or classical with paniers and stuff. taking in consideration that i never before used bikepacking, so any advises ...
ОтветитьWhat's the difference between touring and bike packing?? 😅
Ответить
