I did a sort of balayage to my sides and crown a couple of days ago but didn't lift light enough and didn't realize the toner I was using was going to lift my beautiful root color (naturally 7 or 6) so now my roots are orange! My question is how soon can I try to use this technique to lift the roots to fix the color? I don't want to over process my hair and damage it.

I need your help! I went to the salon and asked for caramel highlights with a money piece except it turned out really coppery/orangey instead of caramel. Do you think a brown depositing conditioner could tone it down to what I want? Should I go the blue shampoo route? Or should I just make another appointment? HELP!

You never want to overlap bleach or double process the hair with bleach. So if there is already highlights from a previous time, but you have regrowth now but the ends are lifted light enough then you’d only want to add the bleach to the regrowth areas ONLY and then stop at the portion of hair that is already light enough. This method is ONLY IF the ends or pieces of hair are already light enough or at the level you’re trying to reach! If you have highlights that are still warm and not lifted light enough then you can use a lower developer (depending on what level the hair is lifted to) and bleach again over the old highlights so they lift lighter to the desired level (level 9/10 for platinum or bright blonde). Make sure to fully saturate the entire strand of hair if you’re doing a full highlight all the way to the ends and make sure they’re isn’t any brush stroke marks on the hair or you’ll get uneven lift and stripes. If your hair is orange or very warm still but you’re wanting the bright blonde/platinum blonde look THEN YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO lift the hair until it’s the color of a inside of a banana peel (a bright yellow color). Always use the lowest volume developer if you’re able to. If hair is a level 9 then I would only use 10 volume, if it’s level 7-8 I’d use 20 volume and then level 0-7 I’d use 30 volume, but only use 30 volume if the hair is not damaged or weak (and the texture, condition and type of hair plays into what developer used). A lot of people don’t leave bleach on long enough and rinse too soon. You have to allow it to process. It should process for 40-65 minutes depending the lift and volume developer used, AND ALWAYS make sure to keep an eye on it to see where it’s at in the lifting process. Bleach on the hair will make hair look lighter then it really is when it gets washed out…so if you’re unsure take your finger/glove and push a little bleach off the hair to see the color it’s lifted to. If you still need to let it sit and process longer then make sure you brush the bleach (use the bleach that’s already on the hair in that strand) and brush back over the area you removed to check the lift (this is so you don’t get unevenness). BUT if the hair is lifted to a bright yellow color, then you’re ready to pull the foils out and wash out with lukewarm water and shampoo. Then once it’s rinsed out that is when you apply either the Toner or the Demi hair color chosen. Your hair must be lifted light enough before applying the toner or color in order for it to deposit properly. ONLY USE BLEACH to lift hair until it’s light enough & depending on the level of brightness you’re trying to reach. If hair is light enough then don’t add bleach to those lightened pieces. Only add bleach to the hair if you want to lift those pieces brighter (remember a level 9/10 is where it should be if you want platinum or bright blonde hair)! Bleach will never give you the platinum blonde or bright blonde hair color that people think when thinking blonde. Bleach is only to lift the hair light enough so you can then use the toner or color you’ve chosen to deposit to the hair. I hope this made sense, it’s hard to type out explanations on hair techniques 😂. Your hair can’t lift more than level 10 and shouldn’t be white only by bleaching and without using a toner to get to that color (that can cause serious damage)

Hi, could you do a video on how to DIY a "multifaceted" color at home? Feria by L'oreal had an amazing shade, the 6.2 Warmer Iced Mocha - Light Iridescent Brown and they no longer make it 😭😭 Feria is the only hair dye in a box I've seen that actually delivers highlights 🤔 how do they do that? I'd love to recreate that shade by mixing stuff myself bc the similar shades I've seen are "flat", meaning they don't come with "integrated highlights".
I've been box dying my fine mid length wavy hair with medium brown for a while with Wella Koleston permanent hair color in medium brown, which matches my natural dark brown hair, it's the box dye that comes in a purple box. But one same shade all throughout is too boring for me lol plus I'm getting more greys now, so it's time for a change. The difference between medium brown and greys is too noticeable. My hair doesn't feel dry or damaged, I know this bc years ago stylists gave me broom hair several times, like Harry Potter's broom level or "chewing gum" hair, you know what I mean, so I quit salons and been cutting and dying my hair ever since without any mishaps. I grew out all the damaged hair years ago. I only touch up the roots with the greys, without coloring the whole head every time, to avoid damaging my hair and also because once I cover those greys I don't need to go over them again, I only touch up the roots as they grow.
Thank you so much Sylvia, I'm asking you this bc I've been watching your channel for many years and I fully trust your advice. Sorry for the essay lol by watching your videos I learned you need to know what you're starting with, and perhaps this is a good video idea. I really like your content 😍🌷🌷🌷

Hi Sylvia, I loved our consultation in August, was such a nice birthday surprise for me! Can you do a video on how to cut our own side sweep bangs? No matter where I get a cut, I’m not happy with my side swept front layer. ( I have bang( fringe) and I want that first layer in front of my ears to sweep chin length so it stays back and doesn’t ‘droop’ . Thanks!

I just did my highlight crown touch up too!
I can not wrestle with foil on my own head tho…so I flat iron my hair super straight then pull through a cap…
I have also found that by doing the root smudge I don’t even need to tone the rest as the freshly highlighted hair. It grabs enough of the root color to tone it as I shampoo it out… I kind of work it through a minute like a soap cap.

Now…to figure out how to stop roots around my face from showing gray so fast!🙅🏼‍♀️It fades fast from makeup removing face wash & exfoliators…I’m thinking of keeping a tiny toothbrush & application of root tap color to use around hairline every week🙇🏼‍♀️

Ps. I am getting great results from adding a 1/4 of 3N to my 7N root color!
It seems to give it more depth & holding power!
