Oh dear, poor James, I’m speechless! Just because people may not be able to care for themselves anymore doesn’t mean we can treat them like domestic livestock or objects that simply need to be fed, washed and changed. I know that resources are limited but the staff’s behaviour in some of these places is inexcusable. People should be valued because they’ve had lots of lives experiences before, and they are individuals just like everybody else.

This is such a difficult situation. I've worked at a number of Care Homes and yes all you can do is the basics, we relied on activity coordinators for trips out etc but as there tends to be maybe one team of 2-3 activity workers in a home with maybe 50 residents they seemed limited. I also had problems with staff who worked a certain way which did not take into account what the residents careplan stated regarding needs, likes and dislikes . When i pointed things out i was ostrisised and felt alone. Managers don't really care how things are done but only how things looked and again would turn on me when i brought issues up. I contacted CQC once and later found out they told the manager what i had told them in confidence. for me this was the last straw and left never to work in a Nursing home again.
